Warrior Beat: Final tune-up

Ryan Meskell works on his kicking form during yesterday's practice/Photo by Stephen Tsai

The Warriors will finish prep work on the Rice game plan with this afternoon’s practice.

The workout promises to be more detailed than yesterday’s walk-through session.

Rice arrived yesterday afternoon on a one-stopover charter flight.

Conference USA allows members to have a travel party of 75 players. The Owls are observing that league limit for this non-conference road game.

Free door fee at Rockza for all Rice players and coaching staff โ€”spread the word!!!!

  10. winning September 7, 2018 4:41 pm

Gee, no need to do all that. Rice is going down anyway. REV from 2014 when the great one, Norm Chow, was coaching. It was really pathetic to watch. Glad those days are over!!

Happy Birthday to Stephen Tsai and Wena!

  14. Savich September 7, 2018 6:57 pm

Rice Owls came to play. I think the defense will win. Interception, fumble, return, or sacks. Interesting note.

  15. Savich September 7, 2018 7:02 pm

Or you could buy the strip dancer for the night.

The game will be free there too. Free setup, means free pupu and free nude live naked girls on stage. Technical guy. It’s his job.

This year I think Texas may get better. But waiting to see which bowl they go to. Longhorns and Owls are from Texas. Conference USA, Big 10.

Warriors, have to maintain your intensity the entire game…there is a tendency to come out flat after half-time and take a while to get going again. Also secondary, you have to play their receivers better than you did with Navy towards the end of the game, looked like they were moving down the field at will. Above all, believe in yourselves, YOU GOT THIS! Go Warriors!

I was reading one the Rice Owls Fan blogs and here is one post they got from the MWC site:

“Beware of the buzzkill Rice Owls. The 1999 and 2001 seasons were the best of times for Hawaii football. The 1999 Warriors shocked college football be finishing 9-4 after a winless 1998 season. The 2001 team went 9-3 and destroyed a previously undefeated BYU team in the season finale. Both those seasons had few negatives, but one common occurrence? Two bad losses to Rice in Honolulu. A 19-38 blowout in 1999, and a close 24-27 loss in 2001. With optimism the highest it has been for years, Hawaii should be wary that these Owls have a history of spoiling the party.”

Rice, Houston and some other mainland teams fans think that Hawaii is all flash and no grit toughness. And they believe their teams have physical size that can over power Hawaii in all 3 phases of the game.

Of course, they also think that Navy might not be a very good team and Hawaii hasn’t proven anything. Which may or may not be the case for Navy Football, we have to see how they do throughout the season.

The nay sayers are still nay saying about the 2018 Hawaii Football team. The Hawaii Football team still has to come out and put a relentless beat down on every team they play. Then maybe they will get some respect and then after the nay sayers stop nay saying. The Hawaii Warriors need to continue to work, grind and put even more relentless beat downs!

    Live Aloha/Play Warrior

    Work Grind/Earn Respect!

    Go Warriors!

I think (my opinion) UH should use a steady rotation of receivers at the opposite wideout. Find out who can produce. I know some receivers had a good Spring and some had a good Summer but the opportunity is there to make such an impact if one (or all of them, even those big true freshmen ) can step up. Especially ones that can become a big, chain moving target that can also go deep on iso coverage. Lots of bodies in that group, but is there depth? Let’s hope so.

    #24 What’s up

Terrific observation by that MWC poster. A lot to consider and digest for us the fans especially with the pressure of new expectation on the team now. They can do it. We can help them. Fill the stands (the bandwagon too) and make sure the Player’s feel the “Aloha”. Go Warriors!

How deep down is Noa on the depth chart, I really thought he had the tools to get significant playing time this year….

  30. NotNasti September 8, 2018 10:42 am

    Whats Up,
Mahalo for the video. June Jones mic’d up was golden. Brings back memories. Hawaii had some players on that team. Ashley Lelie, Pisa, Chad Brown, Lance Samuseva, Chad Owens, Nate Jackson, Abraham Elimimian, Vince Manuwai, Kelvin Millhouse, Travis Laboy are some names my fleeting memory allows me to recall. Recipe for success? Talented players and good coaches.

for breakfast i ate chicken fried rice.i pretended it was owl meat.

  32. dreamcitymike September 8, 2018 12:53 pm

Let’s go warriors, stay focused and keep the pedal to the metal! Don’t underestimate the Owls, dominate all 3 phases of the contest, expecting a double digit victory tonight if we stay the course!

  33. Whats up September 8, 2018 12:57 pm

Army smoked Liberty at home today and Navy beat Memphis in a thriller. Just some historical facts that only Navy or Memphis have won the AAC Western division title since the inception of the AAC. So for the nay sayers that thought Navy is not a good team are wrong.
