The Warriors are trying to rebuild the triangle offense following the graduations of short-snapper Brodie Nakama, holder Ikaika Woolsey and kicker/punter Rigo Sanchez.

Noah Borden, who handled long-snapping duties last year, can be a full-service snapper. So, too, can Shawn McCarthy, who redshirted last year after transferring from Puget Sound. H-back Dayton Furuta and tight end Dakota Torres also are considerations as snappers.

Stan Gaudion, who is competing at punter, is regarded as a holder candidate. Alex Trifonovitch, who was recruited as a punter, has focused mostly on placekicking this offseason. Two other kickers are joining the Warriors in two weeks.

Special teams are especially important. Possibly 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

    Every play counts.

University of Hawai’i tight end Metuisela ‘Unga was named to the 2017 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, given to the nation’s most outstanding tight end.

‘Unga is the Rainbow Warriors’ first candidate for the award, which began in 2000 and is named after NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey. The winner will be announced Dec. 6 and then presented live on Dec. 7 at The Home Depot College Awards Red Carpet Show.
