#26 Part of the ND equation was that no doubt that until just about two years ago, they were still paying Charlie Weiss, almost 20 million in severance-he got about 2 million a year for about 10 years. (so much for fidelity to his alma mater) Charlie also got another 5 million in severance from Kansas when he was fired there…..Now, I don’t know about you, but I am pretty sure I could have hired all the right assistants, let them do their thing, and had the same or better record as Charlie the tuna.

Today’s word is RIDICULOUS! It’s ridiculous that Brian Kelly gets only $1.6 million at a place like Notre Dame. And I think Rolo only getting $400K is just as ridiculous. He’s already proven to be making at least, if not more than what Norm Chow got which is around $550K. Come on, man! If we at Hawaii want to aspire to be better than just mediocre and better than the 4th lowest FBS head football coach in the country then we are going no where. Granted the UH doesn’t have a lot of money and can’t pay big bucks, but jeez I hope Matlin wakes up and not wait another 3 years before the end of Rolo’s current 5 year contract. The landscape has changed a lot in just one year. Tear up his contract and give him a new one. It would be fair that Rolo gets around $650K and that ain’t much when you are talking about FBS Head Football Coaches. And while we are at it, give a little more money for a very good defensive coordinator out there too. That’s it for now.

P.S. And I think Nick Saban is worth every penny he gets.

Rolo has the passion and pride that makes him the kind of person Hawai’i needs at the HC position. We are lucky to have him. I hope he will become successful enough here to command a bigger salary for himself and the rest of his staff. Mahalo to all of the coaches and players for having the Warrior spirit to represent our state! Nobody comes to Hawaii to coach or play because of our great facilities or for the money. It’s all about heart!

While I appreciate Mike Leach’s comments, he is going to make almost 3 million this year (or 7-8 times Rolo, in a much much cheaper market). Its sort of easy to play zen philosopher, when you live in Pullman, WA, and making that type of scratch…..

my 2 best eateries on the mainland: Cici’s and Golden Corral!!!

both are cheap and can eat plenty, plenty — like massive plate lunch in Hawaii and cheap!

we have had 3 Tsaiko tailgates at LV — 1st ever was put together by Rich 2176 and Rasu Bagasu at Cici’s — of course, ST and Ferd got lost — took 515 on ramp, but headed to North LV — we were in Henderson — posse went out to look for them; 2nd was at Boulder Station; and 3rd at the Fiesta in Henderson — 4th will be held soon.

4th should be a good one — have fun guys and gals!!!!

Hawaii has good weather, albeit a little too rainy for my tastes. Other than that there is no good quality of life. Crowded, expensive, horrible traffic, limited economic opportunities, racism between locals and those that came later, families living 8-10 to a house due to exorbitant prices. These are not things to be proud of or brag about.

You need to get off the island and see how well others have it. Just sayin…
