You can read ST’s column on Corey Batoon right now. It might be blocked later on.

Batoon said the key is to teach each player the basic concepts and coverages, then expand the responsibilities if needed.

He will be evaluating the personnel, matching schemes to the players’ skills, and implementing a base that can easily expand.

Batoon said he was pleased with UH’s 2018 commitments, noting the defensive players have multiple skills.

Agree with 44. And when Kemp needs to catch with his hands, he does use them. Example was the game winning pass from Woolsey in Nov. of 2014 vs, UNLV, in which the play started with 1 second left on the clock..
Speaking of football, two QB’s that UH played against this past season, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen are projected to go high in the NFL draft.

Too much is being made about the way players catch with their hands or their body. I see a lot of NFL players catch with their body also. You don’t always need to catch with your hands…..in fact, if you stick your hand out and catch the ball, the defender can knock the ball out by separating your arms. If you can get your body between the defender and the ball, your body can be use as a shield. Catching the ball with your body also allows you to secure the ball better and be able to absorb a hit.

Picture this and try to run this thru your mind…..a ball is coming face level. Coaches will tell you to stick your hands out, catch it and then pull it in. Sounds like good advice…..BUT if you jump up a little and catch it with your chest, you are throwing your whole body in from of the defender and there is no way for him to bat the ball down. He can only tackle you and hope you drop the ball.

The first scenario in which you use your hand….the defender can come from behind and either separate your hands from the ball or he can reach over and bat the ball down. The receiver using his body will make it much more difficult to defend.

If Kemp has the bad habit of catching with his chest(which some fans like to make a big deal out of) why do you think the Kansas City Chiefs put him on the roster. If he can catch the ball, then he can make the play. It shouldn’t matter how he catches the ball..as long as he catches the ball.

Re: Clune. FWIW, I once read where then-OSU head coach Gary Andersen said he was taking over the defense (early last season) and lamented his choices of coaching hires. When Andersen left, I believe another defensive coach was named interim HC instead of Clune.
