Kahuku O-lineman set to join Warriors

Offensive lineman Te Rauparaha “Ra” Elkington will join the Warriors for the 2017 season.

Elkington, a 2017 Kahuku High graduate, is 6 feet 5 and 315 pounds.

He was an offensive lineman for the Red Raiders’ football team and a member of the state-champion basketball team.

“I wanted to stay home and play in front of all my family and friends,” Elkington said. “Ever since I was young, that was one of my dreams.”

He is named after his ancestor, Te Rauparaha, an 18th Century Maori leader.

Elkington will report on Aug. 21, the first day of UH’s fall semester.

I think people think that if a player is not enrolled in the bridge program, he is not joining the Warriors.
    Not so.
There are players who are finishing their studies and will join for training camp.
Deep breaths … deep breaths …
    Enjoy the summer.

Can’t hurt to have another Kahuku Red Raider on the roster. Nice size too.

Haven’t been this excited for an upcoming UH football season in a while.

  5. 3-Prong July 17, 2017 9:37 am

Does that include a certain player who was on the roster previously?????

    ST:

how long will Coach Rolo keep scholarship for J. Tago or has it been already assigned to another player?

  14. A-House July 17, 2017 1:57 pm

best position on the OL for Ra is at “guard”?

needs faster feet to play on the outside?

remember the 1956 game with Nebraska? UH players were short/light. Nebraska deployed 10 players on the LOS with a lone DB and lost 6 – 0.

    Howzit Tsaikos!

Welcome to the Warrior Ohana, Mr. Elkington!

DLM – #15 – I give you one guess as to which company got the contract. Just hope they are responsive to the coaches and the Dept.

  17. jm2375 July 17, 2017 3:55 pm

*Just hope they are responsive to ALL the coaches.

  18. DaveLetterMan July 17, 2017 4:32 pm

jm-#16-I’d be totally shocked if it isn’t I just worry for the volleyball teams.

  19. DaveLetterMan July 17, 2017 4:33 pm

Asics really took care of both men and Wahine teams.

  20. jm2375 July 17, 2017 6:05 pm

DLM – #18 – Asics certainly did. The awesome Hawaiian flag jersey was part of the partnership. (wonder if it’s copyrighted) I hope the “new” contractor is willing to work with the ALL the teams, not just FB. I also hope they don’t come up with designs for UH like those butt-ugly uniforms some other schools have (e.g. Maryland).

  21. amela July 18, 2017 12:34 am

A little slow but he’s huge and a nice local get. Recruiting starting to look good.

  22. ai-eee-soos July 18, 2017 1:58 am

    say it aint so …

Defensive tackle Ka‘aumoana Gifford has been suspended for the University of Hawaii football team’s 2017 season, head coach Nick Rolovich confirmed to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser / Stephen Tsai.

  23. H-Man July 18, 2017 6:05 am

re Gifford: I thought something was up when he was not participating in off-season workouts. Did he participate in spring training? I can’t remember seeing him.

  24. DaveLetterMan July 18, 2017 7:09 am

    Morning Tsaikos!
Re Gifford: hope it’s not connected to the KT incident

  25. Inyoface July 18, 2017 7:48 am

The haole announcer called Harris a Wahine Warrior at the end of that video! Lol

  26. Buffoman July 18, 2017 7:58 am

#25, was there another KT incident? Did not hear of a new development since the initial one.

  27. DaveLetterMan July 18, 2017 8:36 am

Buffoman: same incident. He was there also.

  28. al July 18, 2017 9:29 am

    Time to move on…
Tago, KT, Gifford are all in the “aloha means goodbye” category.
Two strikes and you are out.
    This is not baseball.
Squandering a $100k football scholarship is a tough lesson in life. Take heed all you young men. Cherish the gifts.

  29. A-House July 18, 2017 9:31 am

2017 season started off with much hope and then came the ——————

    hope it stops

addition of Elkington is a PLUS SIGN – 1st local high school recruit for 2017.

‘oh its beer, beer, beer, that wants to make you cheer’
‘ on the farm, on the farm”
‘ oh its beer, beer, beer that wants to make you cheer’
‘ on the Leland Stanford junior farm
my eyes are dim I cannot see
I have not brought my specs with me’
    I have not, hey, not
I have not brought my specs with me’

  30. A-House July 18, 2017 9:34 am

if Rolo gives Gifford’s scholarship to another player and he comes back for 2018 — does he get another or “suck wind”?

  31. Inyoface July 18, 2017 10:54 am

Not sure what’s up with the defensive line the last couple years but it seems to be cursed in a way.

  32. Maddog50 July 18, 2017 11:00 am

No doom and gloom here-ok so a few guys are done at least for this season. There are at least 10 guys that will rise from the ranks on both sides of the ball that are unknowns as of now-the additions of late are projects devopment guys and roster fillers-over time they will make an impact or won’t. Right now it still a good roster more than capable of a winning season. That’s my view. GoWarriors!!!!!!

  33. haka July 18, 2017 11:05 am

Maddog50…agree. The hope for this team will not be affected by the attrition of available Warriors. Expectations remain the same. It’s “next man up” as far as the team is concerned. Opportunity awaits the Warrior in waiting. Be ready young men, be ready. The future is now. Imua Warriors…Imua!
