I’m on the mend and it’s good to be back. Corey Batoon, like most of the UH coaches and players, is an interesting person to interview.

Having said that, the tools of the trade against their first Pac-12 opponent (That finished 3rd last year) is going to be a true testament to how they handle the pressure. Kaimana Padello, although not a recognizable player by MWC standards, is probably going to be the X-factor for this team. Alone, he cannot do everything for the team (And/or bail them out by at least getting a sack for them). Someone has to be the inside man (To support Padello) for their team, whether it’d be Farris, Ford, Okeke, Hicks, Pavihi, or Matautia. If any of those guys can make a solid play and play stout defense when the team needs it, then without a doubt, we’ll be a force heading into MWC play. But I like what Batoon is doing. He formulates a strategy that makes his team feel like they’re taking a test against a tough opponent. His methodology on what the team needs to do to prepare for what will be coming to them against opposing offenses is going to be needed. After all, the Pac-12 opponents Hawaii’s facing has finished in the following order: 3rd, 6th, and tie for 1st. This kind of rigorous test will prove to be a fight-or-flight response and dictate whether or not this team will be prepared for Mountain West play. It’s a tough challenge, but we’ll just have to prove it on the plate that we can play against the best.
