That nevada game was an embarassment and it was worse because it was on national tv

It seems to me that our defense is always out of position, and why such little pressure on the opposing quarterback. Maybe as the CBS analysts opined we should simplify the defensive schemes.

This trend is hard to stop and I expect this will continue. Let’s be real team rules are team rules. You break them you you pay a price. If that price is not harsh or if it waivers from player to player, players will sense weakness and continue to break rules. It might be worth the risk to them if it’s a game or two. When you have players or worse yet starters being yanked suddenly It’s adding chaos to the teams mental ability to play the game with focus. It’s breaking the team. Im sure there will be a player meeting following this. The season can be saved. If I was a captain or captains I would suggest to the coaches let me handle the discipline, let me handle suspensions. Let the team deal with disciplinary actions. Trust me the players know who’s who. It’s a team issue, a focus issue but mostly a player issue. They know the ones showing up late or not giving 100% change can happen but it’s not going to come from the coaches. It has to be a team decision. Hope the team can find a way to have fun and fly around the field with focus and intensity when we do that less mistakes happen and we win more than lose. We clearly have good athletes that can perform on another level. This team is good!

Looks like the dreaded sophomore slump in progress (like 2000).

UH did managed to pay former DC Thom Kaumeyer $250K, which was the highest salary paid to any assistant at Manoa. Unfortunately, he was shown the door, along with Tony Tuioti (now at Cal) after the 2013 season. Interestingly, Kaumeyer has attended practices at UH under Rolo’s watch. Hope there are some extra resources available.

No sense whining and bitching as they’ll only end up back at square one. Gotta get to work to fix this by coming up with solutions to these problems.

That loss along with the past two tells me more than one defensive coach is over his ski’s. Flat footed out of place and confused is what I observed. Not ready to play ill prepared and lack of emotion. The penalty tally is absurd. Again only an observation but this team has two wins one against a winless team the other over an FCS team. With performance like yesterday I do not see another this year-that causes me great pain to say that-

St. Juste has 890 yards after 6 games. He had over 200 yds last night vs Nevada, but had a 75 yd TD called back due to a hands to the face penalty. UH needs to clean this up, pronto as it’s gotten ridiculous. Again, maybe get those big freshmen O-linemen into the rotation and let em take their lumps and gain experience.

Bringing in an experienced DC will take some doing, financially. Realistically, UH can only attract up-n-coming young coaches at the lower levels (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but if they’re good, they’ll leave soon) due to the low salaries (lowest in FBS). Just name dropping, but If they can gather some resources (boosters), perhaps they could attract someone like former OSU & Nebraska DC Mark Banker (who’s not coaching now). Banker also coached at UH under Wags. Tough get, though. However, I remember when Dick Tomey brought in DC Doug Kay in 1980 after he got let go from UCLA. Kay was an outstanding DC, could rally his players, and a good guy (personally met him).

In the meantime, there are still 6 games to play.

Rolo is not going anywhere. Hawaii will win or lose with him. There is no money. But, he seriously need to consider getting a more experienced DC. And, stop being the nice guy. If you have to lay down the hammer, do it. The discipline problems are showing up on the football field.

Let’s see what this team is made of with 6 games left.

Hawaii needs to find replacement for Noale and get those O-Line penalties under control. Hawaii seriously needs to find another Defensive Coordinator soon, this defense is giving up way to many big plays and big penalties. I mean the defense is on the field way to long because they can’t stop anyone.

Hawaii QB Dru Brown reminds me of Bryant Moniz, great wheels, very very accurate, very good decision maker, tough as nails tough but doesn’t have the big cannon arm to throw the deep ball. So most defenses defend the run game, short/medium pass routes because they are not afraid of the deep ball. I’m not saying Dru can’t throw a deep pass with anticipation and timing but is you ask him to throw/drive the deep ball to an open last second he just doesn’t have the arm strength for that. But Dru Brown is too good of a leader and QB to be blamed for the Hawaii losing streak. And can’t blame Diocemy St Juste, Jon Ursua, Ammon Barker and the Hawaii WR corps for the Hawaii losing streak either.

The Hawaii Offense is carrying this team, special teams is also carrying this team but the defense is porous and the dumb penalties (shooting themselves in the Okole). Rolo is having his Sophomore slump that June Jones felt as well. But thats no excuse Rolo needs a new Defensive Coordinator and O-line coach to fix the 2 areas that plagued this season.
