Former Warrior still going

I have two images of Samson Anguay.

It was during 2011 spring practice when Anguay effortlessly caught punts, then ran at different levels of speed and quick-cut precision. He was like a DVR control: Forward, pause, FF, FF2, FF3 … At the end of that spring, he was named as the Warriors’ No. 1 punt returner.

Then that summer, there is Anguay, dropping to the ground for no other reason than misfortune. He is helped off the field, awaiting the first of three ACL operations over the next four years.

Anguay had several comebacks, a season when it appeared he would just focus on school, another comeback, his graduation, this past year’s pro day and then … crickets.

It had to end sometime, and often the final call is silence.

But this is Anguay, and he has lived a never-ending story. Anguay recently signed a contract to play for the Bloomington Edge of the IFL.

Hoping everybody else had as wonderful a year.

Hmmm. I ended the year on top.
    Lol

For all that Samson has endured…I pray only good things for him.

    To consider:
    > UH is only allowed to sign 25 players to letters of intent. That’s it. If somebody signs, but doesn’t qualify, then they can’t replace that letter. That doesn’t mean a replacement can’t sign a non-binding scholarship agreement or still join the team, it just means the replacement can’t sign a binding contract.
A team has to be very, very careful that whoever signs will actually be eligible.
    There’s a reason for everything.

  5. burro sabio December 31, 2017 10:14 am

we need more “tweets” from al’s little birdies so Mr. A-House knows that something is going on.

    From previous post:

#40: Mr A-House – just because you don’t hear anything doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

  6. al December 31, 2017 10:34 am

A very significant point ST, it surely might affect the P5 from offering 30-40 scholies like in the past.

  7. islandman December 31, 2017 10:47 am

    4. That means the replacement player would not be bound to honoring a commitment ?
But i read it becomes binding once a player signs a scholarship agreement.

  8. Stephen Tsai December 31, 2017 10:58 am

    Islandman
A scholarship agreement binds only the school. A player can change his mind. That’s why grayshirting can be scary. A school has to honor the promise but other schools can poach

  9. BigWave96744 December 31, 2017 11:12 am

How does players going on missions cut again?

If someone signs and doesn’t qualify academically, what if they go and a 3 or 6month mission and then go to a JC? Do we get the scholarship back? Not everyone going on missions are LDS. Some churches or college ministries have short term missions.

i found a $100 bill at costco today.i’m trying to return it to its owner.

  11. Duster December 31, 2017 11:14 am

Re: #4, I would not expect a recruit whose parents attended Duke and Harvard to be a nonqualifier. Is “superqualifier” a word?

  12. Duster December 31, 2017 11:20 am

#9 Bigwave, that is a doozy. The NCAA does a pretty good job of addressing different scenarios in its regulations, but that seems to be way outside the box. I would not be surprised if it’s one of those scenarios where you request an opinion from NCAA and wait 3 years for its interpretation.

  13. islandman December 31, 2017 11:21 am

    8. Oh, thanks. I meant to say i read on cbssports that the scholarship agreement becomes binding on the player at the time he enrolls ( ? )

  14. H-Man December 31, 2017 12:23 pm

Good luck to Samson Anguay. That guy never quit. Kept coming back and remained positive. He will be a success in whatever he pursues.

  16. Maddog50 December 31, 2017 1:14 pm

It’s the quiet period now. I believe that lasts till Jan 12. All the speculation about why this or that is speculation-reason for everything. Still believe we have a need for a large body DT who can at least play some right away. The other immediate need is at least 3 maybe 4 OL who can fill need at TKL. So in my mind that’s 4 to five of remaining LOI. I think Maama is trying to get his paperwork thru the clearinghouse so he is still out there. The transfer scenario I’m sure has something of interest but in my opinion don’t need it for roster fillers-gotta fill a need. Looking for something to surface on coaching front this week. In my opinion Coach Batoon brings a whole lot to the table. GoWarriors!!!

  24. cappie the dog December 31, 2017 6:08 pm

    10.

I once stopped on the freeway to assist a stranded hunting dog idling in the shoulder lane.

He was so underfed, I should have kept him, but he had information on his dog tag.

I felt like Casey Affleck in “Gone Baby Gone”. Had I done the right thing?

Anyway, we made the dog for rebuffed twenty dollars reward exchange at Costco.

  25. cappie the dog December 31, 2017 6:10 pm

Sorry to hear about Chuck Pagano.

He gave Rigoberto Sanchez his shot.

I think I know why Pagano did it, but I don’t want to be under moderation.

And as I read all these comments from last year, I wish all a Happy New Year 2018. It is now, 6am here in Texas, as in 2018; and my apartment complex’ electricity went out at exactly 12:00 midnight and never came back on till 5am this morning. Go figure?, conspiracy???

Happy New Year, Tsaikos!! Stoked for the 2018 UH football season!

    7:30 am kickoff for M&M…

it is all over and done with…

  38. burro sabio January 1, 2018 7:39 am

    Happy New Year everyone

Mr. A-House, al’s little birdies have been proven reliable. A lot of others make things up or post unverified crap that they see on another message board and we don’t need misinformation here. Rolo and his staff are working constantly and your good neighbor probably only shares about 1/10 of what he knows.

  39. Brian January 1, 2018 8:17 am

    brah hang it up already!

  40. jm2375 January 1, 2018 9:35 am

    Happy New Year Tsaikos!
Hopeful for a great 2018 for all!

#WarriorBall first serve on Thursday. No TV, so SEE YOU THERE!

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

  41. A-House January 1, 2018 9:48 am

Hello 2018! Happy New Year to one and all!!!!!

hello, cruel world! yep, we still got all that ” YUK ” from 2017

surprised UCF leading Auburn at the half — 13 – 6.

  42. A-House January 1, 2018 9:50 am

49er faithful then; 49er faithful now!!!!!!!!!!

go Niners — hope to visit Levi Stadium again in 2018 or 2019 — depends on UH and their schedule

  43. A-House January 1, 2018 9:55 am

    burro — your #38

ok, ST, lower da boom on us with all the itsy, bitsy, ugly tibits you hold close as a reporter

like, why was a former WR kicked out of school? dog gone, 2 personal/private!

    too personal and confidential!!!

day opened with clear skies — stars all about — now, getting cloudy — hot dog, need the sun to power our electricity and heat our water to ” bocha “

  44. A-House January 1, 2018 9:59 am

excuse me, sir, but it’s ” quiet time ” for recruiting, but it does not affect ” social media ” technology to keep communicating with potential recruits for 2018 and beyond

keep hopin that young Tuitele will seriously consider UH even if he is considered the best DL in Hawaii — he will be a junior next year — his dad and MasaBoy were teammates at McKinley

  45. Boolakanaka January 1, 2018 10:15 am

I certainly hope that Rolo and staff has done their due diligence and at the very least spoke to Brian Derby about the Oline position. Almost every blue chip Olineman who has played in Hawai’i, has gone through his camps. He has relationship with every school and every coach in the state and that is not hyperbole. I can almost promise you a couple of these kids would stay home just because of him.

If they don’t want him, I’m sure Dino at Syracuse has already spoken to him…..

  46. Ipu Man January 1, 2018 12:06 pm

Congrats to McKenzie Milton and Scott Frost and UCF.
    Undefeated…
Over the team that beat Alabama…
    As someone here always says:
