First week is in the books

The Warriors completed the first week of training camp with this morning’s third practice. The Warriors worked on timing, experimented with lineup pairings, and fulfilled the NCAA’s easing-in requirements. They get to put on the full pads next week.

> It’s clear, for now, that Dru Brown, Cole McDonald and Cole Brownholtz will be getting all the quarterback reps. In most drills, Brown gets two four-play reps to one four-play rep each for McDonald and Brownholtz.

> Here’s the give-and-take of football: Slotback John Ursua soared for a leaping catch over free safety Trayvon Henderson. A few plays later, Henderson swatted a pass intended for Ursua.

> Strong safety Daniel Lewis had an athletic pass breakup during Friday’s practice. Today, he intercepted a deflected pass — a move that is much more difficult to track than it appears.

> In a unique move, placekickers Alex Trifonovitch and Ryan Meskell both wear No. 46.

> Justice Augafa has received a lot of reps at rover.

> Running back Hekili Keliiliki offers a different look.

> Isaia Leeth now goes by his father’s surname. He was known as Isaia Mullen when he signed in February.

ST: None of the other QBs in the picture? How are the RBs stacking up behind DSJ?

I remember a music critic describing in Spin magazine(now an on-line publication, of course) that Boston’s “More Than A Feeling” evokes the memory of watching your older brother washing his car. I am an only child, but I get it.

When I got older, I realized that the Bee Gees had a career before “Saturday Night Fever”. During their Beatles stage, Robin was often the lead vocalist and you don’t hear Barry’s trademark falsetto.

Just to add a little, Chris Posa was with the ones at RG most of practice. Kipper at
RT. Don’t know about Hensley. I didn’t see him at practice. Ssint Juste, Tuiasoa, Keliiliki and Ito had some nice runs. The all looked quick.

    #4 … “Bowwar / #10 “H-man” …

I too am very interested in our RB’s as it was an integral part of the offense last year … a very refreshing change from Norm Chow … so for me the big question is “WHO” will replace Steven Lakalaka as “da bull” for those short yardage situations … ??? I was hoping it will be Melvin Davis but that’s not going to happen … need a “BULL” for those 2-3 yards for a 1st down

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!

Stephen-what did you mean when stating Keliiliki offers a different look? If numbers are right he is a big kid and a little older than the typical freshman-what’s your take?

So if I understand the various posts, our current o-line will likely start as follows:

    LT Dejon Allen
    LG John Waa
    C. Freddie Ulu-Perry
RG J.R. Hensley or Chris Posa
RT John Norman or Brandon Kipper

Reserves will be: Asotui Eli (C and OG), Posa or Hensley (OG-OT) and possible Kipper and Micah Vanterpool (OT).

This raises big questions about status of Eli (Remington Trophy Candidate). I would have thought going into fall the o-line would have been a combination of Allen, Waa, Eli, Hensley/Norman and Ulu-Perry. Still think that’s where we end up but good to get Kipper and Vanterpool reps with first team. I think Graves will redshirt … probably along with the two freshmen OTs. That gives them time to learn UH system and can still be available if injuries require … just good asset management of personnel.

I feel bad for Eli if he gets left out in the OL. I would think he would go straight to the RG if not the C position. I mean I believe Ulu-Perry is good at either C or G position. You want the best guys upfront. If you had to you could just leave Eli at C and Ulu-Perry at Guard and I believe that would be good. Just have to find a RT.
