He had the hair; he had a persona(the poke bowl thing), and above all else, he had talent that Hawaii fans don’t see everyday.

Isaac Fleming had a chance to play in the NCAAs. East Carolina, currently, is next-to-last in the American Athletic. Fleming has more talent than Brocke Stepteau, and I don’t want to make Brocke sound like Rudy(because Rudy was a scrub) but the guy obviously loves the game and doesn’t play with a sense of privilege. When Fleming returned for his sophomore year, I remember him tweeting something close to this(not a precise quote): “I have decided to return to Hawaii instead of taking my talents to a major conference team.” When he decided to transfer, I am pretty sure he was aiming higher than East Carolina. What was he thinking? What team, except for a desperate one like the Pirates, would recruit a player who bailed on his teammates three-quarters into the season.

You make do with what you have. I like the players. I like the coach. I can rest easy that the program won’t go on probation again. Every off-season, I predict which players will leave prematurely. I have an idea about this bunch. I hope it doesn’t come to fruition.

There is a metal-core band with that player’s first name from Knoxville. It’s spelled the Hawaiian way. One “n”. There is a Wendy’s in Tennessee that doubles as a concert venue. They play there with other metal-core bands. Live music in a fast-food joint, but not the Stan Sheriff Center.

That’s all I got. Nice to see Logan Pouelsen hit and pitch well. I want to be wrong. It was a convincing sweep. Portland won a stand-alone midweek game at Eugene. Hawaii lost three out of four to a decent team. Now that’s all I got.

It’s not easy being a Hawaii fan, but it’s the only Division I program we have.

Imagine if Ganot can get (JC ready) one athletic medium-big rim runner and one medium sized wing who can score creating his own shot (by shooting over his defender). Combine that with Villa, Carper, Avea, Buggs, a more dependable and ready Stansberry, a sharper shooting Hulland and a more efficient finishing Zigmars Might draw pretty good. Develop Hemsley, Thomas and a “high profile” local (walk-on for now) player. I think they (Ganot and staff) can get it done.Then use a scheduling formula similar to the one Cappie laid out on an earlier post. Large crowds at Home are possible. Attract the kids (from elementary age to UH student section). Adults will follow.
