I guess it was good that Aaron was here for RS year, to work on his game, Brian I guess you could say he has athleticism, however, he has to prove his skillset, BBIQ, and physical, emotional part of his game could hopefully translate to being scholarship worthy. Best wishes to Aaron Valdes, hope you work hard and get a scholarship!

Look forward to your high flying dunks alongside Michael Thomas!

Mahalo Plenty Brian: Those scholarship questions many of us had, puts into proper perspective, availabilty of scholarships that Gib has to offer. I know Pocho, and Kendall and poorboy, since, Gib does not always let on who is and who isn’t scholarship players, like back in the day, we get confused. Summary:
Scholarhips atheltes currently on roster for now-Ozren,Manroop, Davis,Jawato,Jefferson, Shamburger, Fotu, Standhardinger,Dressler,Spearman=10

Early freshman Nov 2012 LOI signees: Michael Thomas and Stefan Jovanovic=2

Currently 12 scholies accounted for with 1 still available.

Walkons: (as of now) Michael Harper, Dyrbe Enos and Aaron Valdes

Davis Rozitis, still uncertain on whether coming back for senior season. Ozren and Manroop through the grapevine, we are not sure too. Possibly, at least 2 might open up for Gib this spring. Which would explain the agressive recruiting visits for JC’s, DI transfers, and DI Decommitts.

Mahalo Plenty Brian, and shout out to Pocho, I think the fact that Aaron Valdes is not currently on scholarship at this moment, gives Gib some leverage. However, if he Awards Aaron V. a scholarship, after a great fall camp, or something that would be great.

Bottom line UH MBB team, keep your GPA up and finish Spring Semester strong, it will affect your future endeavors no matter what they might be!

And yes, scholarships are renewable year-to-year. But generally something unusual has to happen for a guy eligible to return to lose his scholarship mid-career.

Hey guys, thanks for keeping the conversation lively. To answer the question about Aaron Valdes — So far in his UH career he’s a walk-on. When he joined the program it seemed initially he might be given a scholarship, but that hasn’t happened yet.

He could very well dunk his way to a scholarship before too much longer. Practices can be a grind, both to watch and play in daily, and he kept things interesting with his athleticism, tip dunks and lighthearted play.

What about Ko from Kaleheo? Alika Smith thinks he is only a RS year away from Div 1. Would be great to get a local boy on the scene. Any news on an extension for Gib or is it sayonara after this year?
