The NCAA HAS granted such six year exceptions. However, there are few athletes who REALLY want to stay in a school for six years, especially after graduating from college. It will be interesting to see what Katie’s decision will be if UH seeks and she is granted the medical hardship. Hope she stays for another two years. She looked very promising in certain matches in which her height and bulk overpowered small opposing post players, particularly on offense. She really provides a valuable option in certain match-ups.

Hey Kazz,

It’s pretty doubtful that she’ll play down the stretch this season. She had surgery to repair torn cartilage in her shoulder just before the season started. She cannot use a normal redshirt year this season, as she burned it earlier in her career, but there’s a chance she could get another year of eligibility with a medical hardship.
It’s another question entirely if she’d want to apply for one. She’ll be a senior next year, and from what I hear, she’s really close to getting her degree as it is.

Whats the difference between what Coach Newlee did to our coach. I never noticed this at the game, but when I watched on the TV later. Good thing the game was televised, since the UH has proof of his behavior.

But I guess we’ll find out next year. If she’s a junior she’ll be a redshirt(regular)/medical redshirt junior, if she’s a senior she just be a redshirt senior.

Just wondering what the status of Katie Wilson is? I recall her having a cast on her arm before the season started and since then she’s always at the games, but not suited to play.

Will she claim a redshirt this season?

Apologies in advance if you already covered this as I do not remember any official statement with regards to her status this season.

Also on last nite’s Makule Monday radio show on 1420am, a caller recollects an incident between Newlee and UH players from a previous game several years ago. The recollection is that Newlee had to apologize. I could not find a press release or statement on the WAC website from 2009 or 2008… but my internet is slow today, and I didn’t do a complete search. Maybe you can research and add info to any follow up article since you wrote about his complaint to the WAC officials…

Otto,

My understanding is Coach Newlee was particularly upset about the intentional foul play called on Keisha Kanekoa, who was going for a loose ball at midcourt. It resulted in Rachele Kloke hitting the ground pretty hard. I didn’t think it was an intentional foul from my vantage point at midcourt.

You are correct, we had Fresno State incorrectly listed at 6-3. I’ll let the sports desk know. I don’t personally input the standings but that kind of mistake is on all of us. Thanks for mentioning it.

Game was rough, but I thought Idaho gave as much as they got….??? Both sides were grappling to create “held” balls… The refs could have blown the whistle earlier, but they let them wrestle…
