First Gib says that absolutely nothing happened, then a couple of days ago he acts like he knows nothing, then all of a sudden he’s making comments on the situation.

I think Gib’s statement is just his way of contrasting the type of rules violations alleged to have occurred at UH to the severity of violations at other schools being investigated by the NCAA. It’s notable that he starts out by saying our players don’t get paid (unlike the Georgia star running back in the headlines for accepting money to autograph merchandise for memorabilia dealers) and don’t commit academic fraud (unlike a whole generation of North Carolina basketball and football players who maintained their eligibility by completing “phantom” courses). He’s trying to send the message that whatever administrative errors UH may have committed are comparatively less serious. With his AD and the NCAA at the point of deciding how to sanction his program, I see nothing wrong with him pointing out the distinction.

I think the point coach was trying to make is if you propose your own penalties before the NCAA tells you what the violations are, make sure you don’t propose a penalty for a felony then find out they were only going to charge you with a misdemeanor.

“Yeah, I shot him.”
“Oh. You were going to only charge me with speeding? Ooops.”
Can I now change my penalty?

Geez,

Gib should not be speaking at all as he could make it sound like he’s defiant on all counts. People erred and they have to take it like a Champ and just keep quiet and let this penalty phase run its course.

think Gib what’s best for the Program, put your head down and just eat it cause something was done wrong. Don’t buck the NCAA’s
