It’s always great to see the players’ families make it out here to see their sons play. There were 7 families at the banquet and another 2 or 3 who couldn’t make the banquet, but were at the games. The Namahoe ohana had 1 1/2 tables. Other parents in attendance were the Tuiletas (of course), Gasman, Meyer, Yung, Rosenfeld, & Van Tilburg.

Banquet was great and piggybacking on #10’s comments, Charlie also mentioned that the main reason the recruit committed to UH (it was a toss up between UH and LBSU) came down to how the benches acted. He stated that Hawaii had the togetherness and could see how close the team is vs. LBSU was well…(Charlie didn’t say it but we all knew what he meant!) Moving upward and onward – GO BOWS!!!

Last night at the Banquet, Charlie talked about the culture he’s building and recruiting. He tells recruits not to expect to play unless they’ve earned it. One recruit committed this weekend after watching the epic matches and seeing the crowd at it’s best and loudest. 😀

The pyramid also has an unusual dynamic. It will take a little extra time to get used to it.

You might be right about the need to get acclimatized to different time zones and different arena as well. Cindy in response #5 provided the real reason for the earlier departure.

As for Cal Poly I’d like to see them finish second ahead of Long Beach as I am a Cal Poly alumnae. Still, I hope they will challenge Hawaii and make the players earn first place finish and give us all a run for our money. I hope to be there in person.

Gasman likely got the nod because he lead the conference stats in blocks per set. Not a lot of offensive middles in the Big West this year so despite lower kills per set, it isn’t a huge drop off from other middles in the conference.
