The four teams in the first round have RPIs of 175, 95, 244, 122.
If Missouri State and/or UNI lose their semifinal match, they would lose to one of those 4 teams with poor RPIs and be done. If only one of them makes it to the final and lose, again they would lose to a team with a for RPI and finish with one additional win and one additional loss to teams with poor RPIs. And I stated prior if they play each other in the championship match, one wins the AQ and the other loses. In the scenarios it ishard to see the non-qualifier passing Hawaii in the RPI.

The scores and breakdown seriously help people like me keep up, and the knowledge here is up there with any volleyball forum I’ve been to, so yeah..it’s looking better for the ‘Bows, but fingers still crossed!

What I am really hoping for is that Baylor beats Texas to make the wahines one big win look shinier and that Ohio State is eliminated and that no bid stealer takes the Missouri Valley or Big East tournaments. Florida state losing would be nice too.

I think their at-large chances improved. I’m largely on the same page with Warriorfan and Optimist. I lost the thread a bit on Optimist’s analysis, but I think we wind up in about the same place.

Today’s good results for Hawaii:
– Syracuse (114) over Notre Dame (35)
– Georgia (62) over LSU (38)
– Duke (RPI 92) over NC State (41)
– Illinois (28) over Iowa (46)
– Ohio St. (42) over Maryland (47) [kept Maryland from moving up, while Ohio St. still has to beat Illinois (28) to finish above .500]
– Florida (2) over Auburn (49)
– UCLA (24) over Oregon St. (27) [keeps Oregon St. out of the top 25, which hurts North Texas (52)]
– Wake Forest (182) over North Carolina (60)

Today’s results that work against Hawaii:
– Washington St. (37) over ASU (138)
– Florida St. (40) over Clemson (260)
– Stanford (5) over Utah (13)

The rest of today’s results I see as neutral or minor, w/o much discernible impact.

Going into today’s matches I had the RPI ‘max scrutiny’ line at 43/44. Non-AQ teams right at that line would be at about 50/50 odds for making the at-large cut, all else being equal. For non-AQ teams with RPI better than RPI 43, the odds of an at-large improve quickly. South of the max scrutiny line, the odds of an at-large quickly go down. South of RPI 52, there is little to no chance.

Reality will vary of course. There are still important matches to be played that can impact Hawaii’s chances. But, today was good day for the Wahine. I hope they are going hard in practice.

One will be automatic qualifier. If Marquette beats Butler then Market will probably get an at-large bid already accounted for in my convoluted calculations.

The matches of teams with RPIs near Hawaii have gone in Hawaii’s way.
43 Kennesaw State automatic qualifier. 44 Missouri State / 48 UNI still in Conference Championship but one has to win and get the automatic qualifier and the other would lose therefore probably not improving their RPI. 45 High Point lost to 61 Radford in their conference Championship therefore Radford automatic qualifier.Again High Point unlikely to improve RPI. 50 College of Charleston Lost to 51 James Madison in their conference Championship there for James Madison automatic qualifier again College of Charleston unlikely to improve RPI. 53 Dayton no more matches 35 ECU automatic qualifier 55 Denver automatic qualifier 58 Austin Peay automatic qualifier.
Now for the “major” conferences :
40 Florida State beat to 60 Clemson, still has 115 Georgia Tech to play.
42 North Carolina State lost to 92 Duke still has number 182 Wake Forest to play butprobably will not improve past Hawaii 42 Ohio State University beat 47 Maryland. Ohio State still alive ,Maryland likely not to improve unless upsets 28 Illinois.46 Iowa lost to 28 Illinois unlikely to improve unless upsets 6 Nebraska . 49 Auburn lost to 2 Florida only has 57 Arkansas left. 56 Alabama lost to 34 Missouri only has 59 Texas A&M left. 57 Arkansas lost to 1 Kentucky only has 49 Auburn left. 59 Texas A&M losing record not eligible 60 North Carolina lost to 186 Wakeforest still has 82 Duke left.
Bonus, 38 LSU lost to 62 Georgia, still has 83 Tennessee left.
Hawaii is at 39 there are 12 conferences before 39 that would be automatic qualifiers therefore 39 – 12 equals 27 at-large bids used up 32 total at-large bids 32-27 means counting Hawaii there’s 5 at large bids for Hawaii or teams below Hawaii.
Probably only Florida State University and Ohio State University maybe improve their RPI to jump ahead of Hawaii.
Still leaving at large bids available for Hawaii.
