as for matautia, no confirmation of him leaving. May be true. Might still be in discussion phase.
But sister Gabby, who was the GA, graduated last weekend.

He’s good enough to be a starter for a lot of teams. But another guy who should be playing is Brandon Rattray. He has obviously worked hard in the weight room and on his skills to be a contributer for someone. Hope they both stay but a volleyball career is so short they ultimately will do what is best for them.

Everything else is just speculation. I think both Rosie & Austin has their moments of brilliance and moments of being in a rut. I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses, but I do agree that Rosie is a better passer then Austin. Not sure if that could be worked out over time, but in the ‘now’ coaches need someone steady b/c if we can’t pass, then we can’t run an offense and all we can do is go ‘high & outside’ and its all predictable from there on out. I really do like Austin, I think he’s a great player, and like all players has things needed to work on, I HOPE it’s not true that he’s leaving, but I do understand from both perspectives of the player wanting court time and the coach putting in whatever player contributes to whatever is needed for the team on the court at any given time. If it is true that he’s leaving with only the statement of “we out” then I think we can chalk it up to maturity and possibly leaving on bad terms. To have such a talented team where we are almost spoiled with quality players to have him leave, speaks volumes to this program. In any case, I hope he isn’t leaving, but if he is choosing to do so, I wish him the best of luck. He will be great anywhere he ends up.

now that they realize austin is leaving, they instantly turn on him and say how bad of a player he was compared to rosie but i remember very clearly in the middle of the season people were upset that wade wasn’t playing austin because they felt rosie was the worst of the two.

make up your mind. don’t be upset because he’s leaving. he’s not happy and wants to find a place that’ll fit him better as a player and as a student. we’ll probably see him at UCLA.

That is what any top team needs is great ball control. That is the only way to be able to run the plays. If Hawaii did not have Gage and had outside hitters that are better hitters than Rosie, then he should be a Libero. I didn’t think Austin had good ball control. Great server and hitter, though.

Very little can separate the 1st string and the second string so you constantly have to work and work. Rosey is jut the better passer and defender. The ability to pass consistently allowed Joe to run the offense more smoothly. The ability to play defense give the team extra chances to score points. Austin inability to pass on a consistent level just was not enough to make the team better.
