Plus there are so many potential (and in some cases, traditional) sites in So Cal and I’d say even Vegas could be a blast.

So the bias really was geography driven rather than power conference driven. That’s still grossly unfair to Cal Ploy, LBSU and the Big West. Something needs to be done about these selection committees that decide student athletes’ fates based on factors other than their achievements in competition.

The politics is disgusting. And I suspect it’s less about east-west balance than it is about putting two SEC teams in the tournament instead of two Big West teams. It appears that power conference bias is already starting to rear its ugly head in beach volleyball, and when the top recruits get wind of that they will start to gravitate to the power conference schools just as they do in other sports. That doesn’t bode well for the Big West in the long run. SMH.

Monkhouse rested today. Saw her getting her right shoulder checked by Dr.Kan (Carly’s dad)..She did it to get it rested up for the more important National Championship next week. If she played that would have been an interesting battle between Tiamiric(Poly) vs Monkhouse(Hawaii)..2 top tough Canadians going at it… I am happy she rested. At least Poly gets to go home with something. I feel LBSU and Cal Poly both were deserving to go to Alabama, but I expected maybe 1 of them to go…
Well, now they know how the Hawaii Mens VB team felt…What if Hawaii didn’t win the BW Title? It clearly looks like only the Champion would go cause they still love USC

But you still want to play well. It didn’t mean anything and players did have a lot on their minds since they knew they’d be leaving Monday and have school work to set up while they are gone.

BTW, men’s All-Americans announced Monday morning some time.

All the energy and focus was to win the BW title. After the win, there is a big sense of relief and the mental outlook of all the UH girls change.

Sure, as a competitor, you want to win all the time but its human to have a letdown after you accomplished your ultimate objective.

Good Luck in Alabama! Go Sandbows!

As #2 or #3, Hawai’i still winds up in the same bracket with Pepperdine. The bracket is what it is, I’ve heard. But, if Hawai’i had slipped to #4 and FSU to #3, then Hawai’i would have played USC in the first round. South Carolina is the easier first round draw. UCLA easily gets to the second round. All roads in that bracket go through the #1 seed.

#7 LSU, a bit mercurial, did finish strong. In fact, finishing stronger than #6 South Carolina. LSU could put up a good fight against Pepperdine. A grind ’em out match is possible in all five flights. Either way, should Hawai’i make it to the second round, a LSU or Pepperdine match-up should be better than facing a well rested UCLA that likely coasts to the second round on three quick flights.
