Not enough courts. Can only have duals at Ching, which really was obsolete before it was finished, given the other stadiums being built around the country.
SandBows have always preferred playing at Queen’s, better sand.
6. teams play back to back all the time. If you look at the complete UH schedule (not just the UH-only schedule listed above), other teams in Hawaii tournaments play back to back. there will be a 15 minute break in between matches.

New thread up for Wednesay.

How can they play back to back matches like that without a break? What if some matches go to three sets? They don’t even get a chance to rest. Certainly the schedule was not devised in Hawaii’s favor.

When you running a tournament and you only have two courts to play on(like UH’s Ching complex), it will take forever to finish the tournament. You would have to start early and run throughout the day and into the night.

At Queen’s you can set up six courts at one time and your whole team is playing at the same time….the way it is supposed to be.

Hall also mentioned that he likes to play in the elements of the beach because when you get to Gulf Shore Alabama, you will be playing in a beach environment.

I don’t have an issue with Nebraska. High-level competition since they use their indoor team. In the past it also was a chance for Hawaii’s indoor team for spring exhibition in the past. I think once Cook retires that you’ll see Nebraska fully commit to beach. He has already giving most of the control to Jaylen Reyes.
As for the schedule, they get who they can get. Much depends on spring breaks and they work around other schools’ schedule.

UH plays 6 out of the other 7 teams from last year’s national championships, 7 of out the other 9 top 10 teams from last year’s final AVCA poll, 5 out of the next 10, and 4 that received votes. 20 out of 30 matches against teams that were ranked or received votes at the end of last season. Six matches against last season’s top 4. Should help with SOS, especially if UH wins the vast majority.

Then there are the weaker matches against Nebraska, Washington, FGCU, and Utah (at least they can say hi to Granato). Why UH continues to schedule against a “club” beach team like Nebraska is beyond me-seems overly magnanimous at this point. Perhaps Portland, St. Mary’s x 2 and Davis are plug-ins for the late season Queen’s beach tournament to fill out the schedule, although LMU x 2 would have been better. But it is what it is. Overall, I like the strong schedule.
