new thread up for Sunday
apologize if it said 5:30 pm. it’s AM
typo was in the UH release. I didn’t notice.

as for the how Alabama was selected. They have been hosting since 2012. put in a bid, it was accepted by the AVCA. they put in a bid and it was accepted by the NCAA.
As neutral site as it is, agree with the comments that it’s more taxing on Hawaii to travel there. and to the other West Coast teams as well. Florida schools not so much.

But the last kill at 14-12 Long Beach State was the most memorable. Side out point. Dig, then the pass to Josh Tuaniga, set to Nick Amado, and the kill. Point Long Beach State 15-12, 5th set victory over UCLA. Nick Amado down all night. Ended up with 4 kills and two digs, but the most important points of all at 12-11, in their favor. Two blocks by Nick Amado, Kyle Ensing, over Christian Hausenuer(UCLA) put the Long Beach State up 14-12 in the 5th set to give the 49ers match point. Side out point. Dig, then the pass to Josh Tuaniga, the set to Nick Amado, then the final kill to put this match out of commission and winning it for Long Beach State. It was Nick Amado’s two blocks over Christian Hausenuer (UCLA), Kyle Ensing’s kill, and Nick’s final kill that put them over the top, to beat out UCLA at 12-9 lead in the 5th game (set). What a match it was. 1991, 2018 champions. 2 for 6 in the finals of the NCAA men’s national title tournament since 1970. Most thrilling victory for Long Beach State.

It’s not always about “high energy”. The teams have their own game plans to suit their style and individual skill set. If it was all about energy Kan and Weaver would win all their matches, but the one and two flights routinely beat them in practice. Dynamic teams are fun to watch especially when they are doing well (but the record of some of the dynamic teams e.g. Our #3 pair Kan and Weaver (30/10) Sometimes “energy efficiency” is the name of the game in Beach volleyball.

In any case, the hope is all the flights play to their full potential, stick to their game plan and play their game to the best of their abilities.

Our number one and two pairs are 35/ (Monkhouse 34/5), have the best records on the team. Hopefully, they can knock off some of the best pairs in the Nation tomorrow and bring home a National Championship.

Of course 5:30 AM. With a time zone difference, they wouldn’t be playing at 11:30 PM Alabama time. As third seed the women will probably finish in third place. Too bad they couldn’t beat FSU. If only one pair did a little better…

As for the men’s NCAA championship match, I’m glad that Long Beach beat UCLA for two reasons, one that one of the three NCAA Committee members that snubbed Hawaii was from UCLA and second that Long Beach will be a little less hungry to win the NCAA tournament if they have a perfect season record next year. Hawaii can lose both matches to Long Beach on the road as long as the Warriors win the Big West tournament against Long Beach at home. Hawaii will simply need to beat CSUN and UCSB twice at home next year and UCSD on the road and perhaps split with Irvine to get a good enough seed in the Big West Conference next year. Even better, beat Irvine twice to vent their fury that Irvine made it to the NCAA instead of Hawaii this year. That would virtually assure a second seed again.

Spectrum channel guide also says 5:30 am. This blog says 5:30 pm. Which is it?? Mahalo.

Yes, I would have liked to play USC than UCLA in the elimination game but it will still come down to whoever plays at a high level of energy, makes the most of every opportunity, and makes the least amount of errors. This is a tough call but I still look forward to watching with anxieties.
Regardless of what happens tomorrow, this Sand Bows has set the standard for our future seasons. Above and Beyond!! They are exemplifying every aspects of our true Hawaiian Style culture and what we expect from every player that wears that uniform. True Grit!! Thank you Coach Jeff and Staff for doing a remarkable job!

Or did UCLA choke a little? Anyway, Hawaii beat them both and no one else can say that. Defalco hit over .400, and is the most dominant player I have seen in a long time. I still think the Wahine have a good chance to prevail tomorrow especially if Emily is ok. Martin and Monkhouse are the ones that I am scratching my head about. All will be revealed tomorrow.
