12. the tournament schedule is exactly as it should be. and how beach tournaments have always been run, beginning with pros it rewards the winners bracket and the losers bracket is a grind.
It’s a standard bracket. Hawaii played once as the top seed. a little inequity since it’s 6 teams and not 8.
had Long Beach lost to Cal Poly yesterday, they would have had 3 matches yesterday. The top 2 seeds, if they win, only played once.

11. as for Ferd, glad he got around to it. he was on vacation earlier in the week which is why i had 2 stories on Tuesday, one that served as the analysis without opinion because that is my role as the beat writer. mentioned what they were trying to do Tuesday. am pursing another story for next week.

If it really is at 2:00 and it’s necessary, there is a scenario where one team could play four times today, with three matches back to back to back (Cal Poly). Now, there is some fine tournament organizing.

Regarding mens volleyball, really liked Ferd’s article today. Was very concerned that UH was not doing anything about the snub. It does appear they really aren’t. Possibly a fear of some kind of retribution from the committee but when you think about it, what else more can the committee do – not invite UH to the NCAA – oh wait, that was already done. It’s sad the committee operates the way to do but what can you say when you have the power schools represented.

Another thing about mens volleyball, glad Charlie is getting a lot of Honolulu boys to commit to UH but more concerned that these local boys aren’t really playing. Other than Tuileta, no one else really played. Yes, Matautia played but not a lot. Afraid the local guys are eventually going to get disenchanted “playing’ for UH when they keep also recruiting foreigners. Yes, I also like the foreigners but they will get more playing time over local players because of their experience. You can’t just recruit local players for the sake of saying “we got the local players to commit to UH”. Of course, I am also not in practice everyday so that may be a big part of it.

These are just my opinions so don’t start yelling at. me – LOL

#7. It’s a double elimination tournament, so the match at 1:00 is for the championship maybe. If the undefeated team loses at 1:00, then there is a rematch at 3:00.

So Hawaii will play The Beach at 10 a.m. Saturday. 49ers upset Cal Poly 3-2.
Cal Poly and Bakersfield meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, loser out
That winner then meets the loser of UH-Beach at noon. That loser is out. the winner plays the UH-Beach winner for title at 1 p.m.

5. the pairs don’t count in team record, it’s more of fun reward for players.
it’s not like the entire team is playing. UH has four pairs, Cal Poly and Beach 3 each. the other schools have two each.
It’s an effort by the Big West, spearheaded by Hall and Rogers of Cal Poly to help get the NCAA to re-institute the pairs championship that had existed under the AVCA.

BW pairs matches will be going on when the brackets are announced at 1pm HT on Sunday. Might be distracting for the players. Seems like the BW should have taken that into account when scheduling the tournament.
