papajoe2 — I have long advocated a 7:30 pm start time for UH home games, like in the 1970’s and 1980’s. There was a carnival-like atmosphere when you entered under the lights of the stadium. Real carnivals have more people when it’s dark too.

We used to tailgate and eat dinner at a more usual hour back then too. I once asked Coach McMackin about a later start time and he replied he would start the game at midnight if he could get away with it… put the opposing team further out of time sync. Home field advantage of distance and time zones.

The game time was allegedly moved earlier so that the opposing conference teams could catch their commercial flights back home after the game. Now we are taking an attendance hit and paying for their private jets back home. 👿

The disadvantage of a later start is that Aloha Stadium would want to have a half-day+ swap meet to increase revenue… but nowadays with the lagging attendance that could be a win-win situation.

Just like to know the opinion of the Tsaiko group about playing a game at 7:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium. I remember before ppv that the stadium averaged more fans for a UH game then they do now. With the earlier start time, more families would come to the games. Tailgate started earlier and lasted longer. With the earlier start times, this state of a working community, the earlier start time prevents people from going to work, home to get the family, and preparing food. Easier to ppv. And if the game itself is junk, just turn off the tv or switch channels. Opinions??

I’m glad that the Twins still recognized Dylan Thomas’ ability. Trap totally messed up the whole season by sending him out for a meaningless alumni game then couldn’t make up his mind on how to properly use him.
