Thursday check in

view

trio

Above is view from last night’s banquet room The Ivory Room, overlooking the Olentangy River. Was told that they have a great fireworks show on July 4. my guess it is nice but Waikiki may be better.

next is Hawaii’s three All-Americans. nice that all had their parents there.
felt sorry for Mol. All they did was ask that the Honorable Mentions stand for a round of applause.
I don’t know, it’s not like there are a lot of them compared to women’s volleyball.

as mentioned on previous thread, banquet a little sad when compared to the women. Buffet vs. plated, self-serve water, ice team and coffee vs. beverage choices.
and as mentioned, felt sorry for the young men. the buffet was pretty sparse. Salad, chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies and cake pops on the table. even Little League potlucks in Hawaii are better. Namahoe, one of the smaller players said he was still hungry and wanted to know where the rice was.

Nice to be able to check in with some folks that I haven’t seen in a while, including Doug Beal, outgoing CEO of USAV and former Olympic coach. think the last time we spoke he was in a Greek courtroom in 04 vouching for Clay Stanley following his run-in with a moped. Beal was the guest speaker and will be inducted into the MIVA hall of fame as part of the inaugural induction class.

in case you didn’t read my story today, Mol was practicing. said he felt good, about 75 percent. him and the trainer have been working very hard.
Gasman has some sort of ailment, looked like his foot, not the one he broke. Sounded like he landed on Anastassiades during serve and pass prior to Penn State but played all five sets anyway.

Think that’s about it for now. Long Beach State-BYU should be interesting. Patch looked pretty good when he came in late against Barton. Will Stanley sill in an arm brace, not sure what percentage he is at but Durkin seems to be running things pretty well.
Also last night, DeFalco named POY, Knipe COY and Hildebrand Assistant of Year.

They have been awfully generous to long beach wih the awards you would think they were the top seed and undefeated.

Darn hope Pat will be okay, no wonder he looked a step slow and lumbering tuesday against PSU, thought maybe he was just jetlagged.

Pre-match press conference link with Wade, Larry and Kupono. Much of the info was in today’s newspaper article.
Ohio St is a very tough serving team. Mol has UH’s fastest serve. He has the most aces per Cindy. I see that Matautia has one of the better service aces per set stats along with Mol and Jennings.
