    Huskers win It 25-16
    Nebraska’s fifth title

I’m a happy camper today. First, Boise St takes down the Oregon Ducks in football, and now, Nebraska wins the Women’s National Volleyball Championship. Now I’ll go celebrate by smoking a cigar.

  4. Warriorfan December 16, 2017 6:38 pm

Whats good about nebraska winning another title?
Was hoping a female coach would finally win one but not meant to be.

  5. Kazu December 16, 2017 7:21 pm

Forgot all about the match. Was in the 4th set by the time i remembered.
Nebraska must have feel like playing at home with all those Huskers fans. At least it wasn’t Penn
State walking off with another championship.
Coach Wise came close, maybe next time. They took care of three good Pac 12 teams to get to the final.

I don’t think there’s a glass ceiling for one gender or the other in women’s volleyball. But, let’s see who USC considers and hires. That could be interesting.

  7. H-Man December 16, 2017 7:44 pm

Nebraska is west of the Mississippi. It’s not in SEC country. Penn St had to watch. Wiped the smiles off the Gators’ faces.

  8. noblesol December 16, 2017 8:09 pm

I believe Nebraska’s beach program paid them dividends this year. They were the superior serve and receive, digging and passing team vs. both Penn St and Flordia. They just had more all-around game and the ability to manufacture a point, even against a bigger block and better athletes.

  9. Big Island volleyball fan December 16, 2017 10:02 pm

I was wrong again. I thought it would go to five sets or three close sets but neither. It went to four. What was so maddening was that Florida missed so many opportunities to score, not hitting down overpasses or jousts and letting a dig just fall untouched. Also missing too many serves and not passing well. By all means Nebraska deserved to win. The Cornhuskers were calm, cool and collected while the Gators just got too rattled. Goodbye, Gators.

I don’t know if this belongs on VOLLEYSHOTS but this almost sounds like what coach Ah Mow-Santos is trying to do with the Wahines.

    10. Yes, I saw that article. I think it’s pretty standard stuff actually, a litany of things that most coaches try to instill in their players and programs. Nothing unique to Florida or Hawaii or… Nebraska https://volleyballmag.com/nebraska-wins-121717/

What I liked about Nebraska is they were the kind of team that you hope to get when you’ve successfully implemented everything into your players and program that Coach Wise and Coach Ah-Mow Santos talk about.

    12. Apologize for putting the hyphen in the wrong place in Robyn’s last name. My spelling and punctuation and grammar have always needed work.

Nebraska had the home field advantage since the finals were played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, which is a short drive from Lincoln, NE. Accordingly, there were approximately 14,000 Nebraska fans who made the drive from Lincoln to cheer and shout their team to victory. We should do the same thing here by filling the Stan Sheriff and supporting our team.

  15. KOH I NOR December 17, 2017 2:42 pm

Ah Mow-Santos was there earlier. I Forgot. Cornhuskers winning. Knocked off Hawai’i many times.

  16. KOH I NOR December 17, 2017 2:56 pm

By any chance you’re hiring some ticket collectors at Stan Sheriff center? Next year though. Or only for students now. 2 nights per week. I sure could use that extra hours at nights. $$$ really. I work during the days. After holiday seasons.

    3. ha ha ha

    4. said female coach unfortunately didnt coach ‘wise’ enough

    5. yes at least it wasnt penn state. we know how of a tactical mastermind russ is so we need him stopped.

    6. glass ceiling?? what glass ceiling? yeah that sucks for mick haley, the sc program under him was going into decline since 2014, being knocked out of the top 25 by losing to supposed to be ‘weak’ teams as well as that 2nd round lost to north carolina (yes they were punched out by a weakling!) 2015, they should of won vs kansas including all that fanfare with samantha bricio but were aced off the court in the 5th set by a ‘weakling’ that never beat them till then. their record in 2016 was abysmal starting 0-3 including being swept by our co-big west irvine and their conference play was abysmal as well before their lost to uh. and it all ends this year with a deja vu (should of win vs florida which is supposed to be a ‘weakling’ compared to them, but was aced off the court in a 5 setter) – yeah mick haley ‘he old’ and thats not good in sports.

    7. ah yes! told you the sec is weak. that was beautiful!

8 and 9. big red declared why not they and proved it was them. it also proved that having really ‘big’ size dont matter, as the apparent 2 really ‘big’ sizes were big and slow. yes nebraska deserved to win being calm, cool and collected while gators looked totally lost (they were libero killed not once in the championship match but twice! – kenzie maloney must be stoked beyond belief.)

Stijn, Tui – Preseason All-America. Rado honorable mention. But will Tui be a starter this season at the beginning ?

I feel really, really bad for Mary Wise. I hope she doesn’t turn out to be the Susan Lucci of NCAA volleyball. Of course, Lucci finally did win. But I hope it doesn’t take Mary Wise 19 runner-ups to finally win one.

Sadly, though, I feel that this was the year and maybe the only year. Rhamat Alahassan is irreplaceable; touched the highest probably out of any collegiate women’s volleyball player ever. Shanaih Joseph, no one leaped higher than her in the Final Four. Carly Snyder’s all-around game was dynamite. Kentucky will rule the SEC for the next few years. Florida’s reserves are just not at the next level. Rachel Kramer was more of a liability in the Final.

  20. Volleyman December 19, 2017 9:49 am

    20. I beg to differ. I think they could definitely compete with Kentucky in the next few years. Kramer has put up solid numbers all season, but teams stacked on her during the NCAAs. Also, Florida is getting the #1 recruit in Thayer Hall, a six-rotation player who I dare to say is better than Lexi Sun was out of high school. And although they lose Alhassan, King will step right up as a premier slide attacker and a great blocker (although not as good as Alhassan cause she was a monster). We will see how Florida develops next year, but I think we will see them compete well.

  21. tako December 19, 2017 2:18 pm

Is anyone privy to the grapevine and know of players that the Wahine are interested in and are interested in our team?

Merry Christmas to all out there.

  22. warriorwahine December 19, 2017 10:16 pm

    20.

“Rachel Kramer was more of a liability in the Final.”

yes that just proves that having really ‘big’ size dont matter, as the apparent 6’8 was big and slow.

    no final poll?

    merry xmas all!

  23. Kauai boy December 19, 2017 11:15 pm

Alhassan is an amazing athlete but 75% of the time she would tip, rarely got a good connection with her setters.. Hardly ever went behind the setter… IMO as a volleyball player she is over rated and never developed into what I would’ve expected when I saw her as a freshmen..

  24. Volleyman December 20, 2017 8:37 am

24 That is true. The setters for Florida didn’t really set her well, but she always found a way to score points. If you watch the Stanford Florida match, her hitting was the best I’ve seen all year, having solid connections with the setters. In addition, her blocking numbers are amazing. And that is why she was the SEC Player of the Year.

  25. vballfreak808 December 20, 2017 11:39 am

PrepVolleyball released their All-Americans. Maglio is on third team, Iosia is an honorable mention.

Also saw that ESPN will be handling the beach volleyball championships now. Honestly I’m going to miss TruTV producing it because of the ability to stream all five courts plus watching it on TV. I doubt ESPN will be doing the same.

  26. vballfreak808 December 20, 2017 11:42 am

^ Correction: reread the article and they will show all five courts on ESPN3
