The Rainbow Warriors today had five players named to one of the three AVCA All-America teams, led by first-team selections Stijn van Tilburg, a junior outside hitter, and senior libero Larry “Tui” Tuileta.

Named to the second team was junior setter Joe Worsley while sophomore middle Patrick Gasman and opposite Rado Parapunov were honorable mention.

There were 10 players on each of the first and second teams. Only Long Beach State had more: 3 first team and 1 2nd. Interestingly, UCI had none on the first team, 2 on 3nd.
Ma’a (Punahou/UCLA on 1st team) Enriques (KS-Hawaii/Stanford) on 2nd

It is the second consecutive first-team selection for van Tilburg, who switched positions this season from opposite to left-side hitter. Tuileta was a second-team pick as a junior.

Hawaii now has 29 first-team certificates given to 15 players. Van Tilburg is the first repeat first-teamer since middle Taylor Averill (2014-15).

The All-America banquet is Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Tuileta the only libero on 1st team. SVT makes it twice playing two different positions.

Congrats for the well-deserved recognition. Hopefully, Solbrig and Gage Worsley can be added to this list next year.

It just baffles me how UCI got 2 players on the stinking 2nd squad and is going to tournament…. Still ticked off about it all. Cindy, how does one get chosen to be on the all knowing all powerful committee to choose teams for tournaments?

UCI and Ohio States are now two sets apiece and this is going to a fifth set. Hawaii might have won this match against Ohio State. More bitterness for the UH players there.

Ohio State Advances to NCAA Semifinals against LBSU! Hawaii would have beaten OSU if given the opportunity by the NCAA Committee.

UCI took Ohio State to the limit, losing only by two points, 14-16 in the fifth set. So UCI is out. It truly hurts to think that Hawaii could have beaten Ohio State and advance to the NCAA semifinal to play Long Beach once more. Well, let’s hope that UH can win the Big West Conference at home next year.

Hawaii would have taken either team in four, wasn’t impressed with either teams ability to sustain a high level of play.
