Wahine Tuesday practice, scrimmage update

Good morning from the arena. Practice not as early as last week since summer school is out. They are going 8-11 a.m. first session as opposed to 6-9 a.m. Manoa Move-In today also for the dorms.

Afternoon practice today also moved from 3-6 to 5-8 due to a meeting after lunch. 3-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday’s scrimmage 3-5 p.m. (Open and free to public.)

People have asked how practice is going. Not much has changed, still doing drills, mostly position specific such has blocking and hitting.
Continue to be impressed with Angel Gaskin, the left-handed oppo. Think the battle for L2 will be between Casey Castillo and Kirsten Sibley. Tita Akiu looks to be front-runner for libero. Have no clue who will be in the middle, seems pretty even with Skyler Williams, Sophia Howling, Sarah Liva and Natasha Burns. Not sure if they will redshirt either of the freshmen Trinity Castaneda and/or Kamalei Krug.

Mentioned earlier that former UH baseball player Steven Ventimilia was with the Wahine as the strength coach. He helped with some of the ball retrieval during drills and I thought he had nice hands. Asked about it and he said he played volleyball in high school (Monterey, Calif). Asked setter? He said yes.

Quite the prep athlete. lettered four years in baseball, two in football, tennis and track, one in cross country, basketball and volleyball.

Cindy would you say that McKenna Ross could be McKenna Granato’s back-up at OH and/or a DS specialist hitting out from the middle backrow also? (Utility-like?)

Like to see Burns get to start, but that brace on her knee doesn’t look good. I hope its not as bad as it looks.

Me too. Would like to see Burns start. Howling and Williams also great combo. So it probably will be a mix, depending on game situation.

7 no Ross won’t be the backup L-1. Thinking Sibley if Castillo is the L-2. we’ll see.
See Ross more in the role she had last year Backrow with 3-meter attack
Burns’ brace is precautionary Wouldn’t be concerned for now
