The pre-game discussion on UH having “6 hours” to prepare for BYU is a little over-blown. BYU has limits on its preparation time and had to travel to Hawaii to play a Thursday night match. No advantage to either team.

  2. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:16 pm

Perhaps but Hawaii also played Sunday and BYU didn’t
UH starting Koelsch, Granato, Williams, Iosia, Kahakai, Castillo, Maglio.

  3. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:18 pm

    1. Since I didn’t hear the comment, was it overblown or just a statement of fact about UH’s 6 hours to prepare.

  4. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:19 pm

That’s true, but BYU also had to travel over the Pacific to get to Honolulu. That takes a good portion out of your day, and traveling so far is not easy. As I said, no advantage to either team.

  5. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:22 pm

    3. Robyn stated the fact that there are 6 hours for UH to prepare for BYU. IMO, the coverage of that on the pre-game show was a little overblown, along the lines of how tough it is to prepare, etc., without any view as to the challenges BYU has traveling on a short week (discussion by the pre-game team, e.g.) Both teams have issues on the schedule, not just UH.

  6. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:25 pm

BTW, on stream, just going through UH lineup now.

  7. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:29 pm

BYU on a 6-0 run, it’s 12-7. TO UH. Jones-Perry with four straight kills and then Koelsch blocked.

  8. Warriorfan September 7, 2017 7:34 pm

Impressed by BYU’s development of players none of them are big time recruits but they have improved at BYU.
    UH needs that.

  9. Warriorfan September 7, 2017 7:37 pm

Hope to see Mags at the pins in set 2, what they do have to lose?

  10. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:41 pm

Jones-Perry hits long. UH closes to 23-17. TO BYU

  11. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:42 pm

    5. as i said, didn’t hear what was said and just asking.

  12. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:43 pm

BYU had the #11 rated class in 2016 and #13 class in 2017. They have five PrepVolleyball senior aces including one at #21. Not exactly getting projects, but they are well-coached.

  13. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:44 pm

Jones-Perry with her 13th kill, ends it 25-18.

  14. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:45 pm

    11. I was just trying to explain to clarify between stated facts on the show and my opinion of the coverage, nothing more.

  15. Warriorfan September 7, 2017 7:45 pm

UH has had top 15 classes too, byu doesn’t get ucla talent yet they are probably better.

Jones perry is looking like a POY candidate tonight yikes need to slow her down.

  16. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:47 pm

I hope UH uses Maglio on the outside this match so I don’t have to keep reading lamentations about why she is still being used in the middle. We get the point.

  17. warriorwahine September 7, 2017 7:47 pm

cindy why did the blog prematurely terminate sunday and never really reopened since?

beating byu would be the same concept against utah. utah was dont or they should of dont let adora anae be adora anae. here with byu its be faster plain and simple.

also serve tough. nice that robyn now has savannah doing it her old farrington governors roots

  18. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:48 pm

Sibley in on the right, Howling starting in middle in Set 2.

  19. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:49 pm

    17. blog ended due to a loss of internet.and continuing to have computer issues.

  20. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:55 pm

BYU pulling away at 10-6. TO UH

  21. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:56 pm

    14. again. was just asking. nothing more

  22. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:58 pm

ball clearly was touched by BYU, which is what UH is challenging.

  23. Maverick September 7, 2017 7:59 pm

Anyone on here think Robyn waits too long to call a timeout?
Maybe it wouldn’t matter because of the rotation, but don’t recall seeing so many runs and point deficits in years past.

  24. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:59 pm

8.3 earthquake off Mexico. Hawaii may be under tsunami watch in a bit.

  25. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 7:59 pm

UH wins the challenge it’s 10-8

  26. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 8:05 pm

It’s 19-8. TO UH. Jones-Perry 18-2-28. she has more kills than UH (15)

  27. Maverick September 7, 2017 8:05 pm

    23. Probably impacted by a lack of a terminator, too.

  28. Maverick September 7, 2017 8:08 pm

This is quickly becoming the sequel to the San Diego match

  29. Warriorfan September 7, 2017 8:09 pm

These runs wahine are giving up just wow.

  30. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 8:12 pm

    BYU wins 25-12

  31. Maverick September 7, 2017 8:16 pm

There is not one single stat on the livestats for which UH has performed better than BYU.

BYU reminds me of UH a few years ago, and UH reminds me of UH’s opponents a few years ago.

  32. Bleachercoach September 7, 2017 8:17 pm

I just wished they played Maglio at OH and through all 6 rotations. Cant go wrong! She cant do any worse than any other player backcourt. Very disappointing to see an All American Indoor/Beach sit so long…why?

  33. Maverick September 7, 2017 8:18 pm

Shoji impressed with BYU’s libero, Lake. She was the #51 senior ace.

  34. warriorwahine September 7, 2017 8:18 pm

wahine need to stop playing at pace, speed it up and sunder the block

  35. z September 7, 2017 8:18 pm

Hawaii looks slow. Even the cougar center is getting the dink. Dave Shoji just said that he is impressed with BYUs ball handling.

  36. islandman September 7, 2017 8:20 pm

No tsunami from Mexico, per news, only from BYU.

  37. z September 7, 2017 8:21 pm

Dave said our blocking is not very good.

  38. Maverick September 7, 2017 8:21 pm

    lol

  39. Ashley September 7, 2017 8:24 pm

if Hawaii doesn’t shape up, this season could possibly be shorter than we expected.

  40. Warriorfan September 7, 2017 8:26 pm

Luckily the big west looks horrible.

  41. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 8:48 pm

Burns in for first time. UH wins Set 3 25-16.

  42. Cindy Luis September 7, 2017 10:37 pm

As frustrated as you folks are over this. Wireless kept going out in the arena, which mean the gametracker kept freezing. at least courtside.
    Wahine win Set 4 25-115. lose Set 5 15-7
got in another bad roation in Set 5. it was 3-3. all of a sudden it was 14-6.
Granato witih 23 kills, Maglio 14. Kahakai 20 digs, moves to No. 10 all-time in digs.

    http://hawaiiathletics.com/boxscore.aspx?id=20982&path=wvball
    like to the box above

Burns went in for a bit, created some problems with her size. Ah Mow-Santos said “why not” try it. she was trying to find some sort of combination out there.
Thought maglio did a nice job, hitting left right and middle.
Hawaii was outblocked 10.5-8, 5.5-3 in first two sets combined.
    3-1 in Set 5.
What Ah Mow-Santos said, they have a game plan. the problem was in not executing it.

  43. Lori September 7, 2017 10:41 pm

I am encouraged with tonight’s game. They need to put half of the game with UCLA and half of the game with BYU and come out with a complete game. I was hoping so hard they would get a break and actually win a big game but not to be. I hope the girls do not get discouraged.

  44. Maverick September 7, 2017 11:07 pm

This year’s team may not have the confidence to win a fifth set against a good or great team. Also, this team plays much better with the lead than from behind. The good news is that UH should favored to beat most of the teams on its schedule; maybe an underdog at LBSU, at Poly and at UCSB, assuming everyone is healthy.

  45. warriorwahine September 7, 2017 11:35 pm

well..wahine showed that they still have fight thats good for them but not good enough…

i guess so much for rpi never mind ranking eh?

this years wahine lacks punch and lacks strength to finish it including in a 5 set, thats 0-3 in 5 set matches.

i saw robyn hold her head and subtly shaking like shes in pain

but on the plus side i like that theres more serving tough including with jump topspin servers, savannah is a spin serving libero competing with norenes nasty serve and showing her ‘prolific outside hitter’ serve from her roots with the farrington governors – go governor!

  46. warriorwahine September 7, 2017 11:41 pm

    42. cindy what problems if any did natasha create with her size? her speed and lacks punch was minimum impact. good thing that byus 6′ 7″ hamson was also limited use.

wahine needed to increase speed and charge. i like that the presence of emily magnum, kendra and now savannah is taking command and control. norene also has presence but has dulled. and mckenna model g at least is sundering some.

tomorrow its baylor which showed in its first 2 sets that it can dominate and despite falling asleep can come back and charge. they seem vulnerable to tips though. but they also have the largest force 18 players on roster apparently here?? including a 6′ 6 so wahine needs to be faster and charge as necessary tomorrow.

  47. Hot September 8, 2017 2:12 am

Any word on Lipscomb? Is she injured or redshirting?

  48. RoyGBivs September 8, 2017 5:03 am

This team has the talent and experience it needs to win games but what makes it disappointing is with all of that, you also need game IQ, gametime wits. Shoulda…. Wouldah.. Couldahave.

    Next Game.

  49. H-Man September 8, 2017 7:04 am

The UCLA and BYU matches provided glimpse of what the Wahine can be. Still early in the season. New coach and staff. They will get there to be in the NCAAs.

  50. islandman September 8, 2017 8:07 am

    46. What kind minimum impact is 4 kills and 2 blocks in 2 sets and the 5th ? Plus Dave said she tipped or touched some BYU attacks and helped to turn the tide.
I like Burns in there and that Robyn gives everyone a chance to play.
Maybe Lipscomb and Gong will redshirt ?
Wahine serving was really good in the 3rd and 4th sets. Dave said in the post-game show that they are going to the NCAA’s from winning the conference.

  51. vbfan September 8, 2017 10:19 am

I think they can and will win the conference and keep the NCAA streak aliive.

The Big West overall looks pretty bad this year.

Long Beach State has only one win all season, and UCSB is winless, both those teams look terrible to be honest.

UCI is undefeated, but really haven’t played any really good teams.

Cal Poly got swept by both ranked teams they played,

  52. greenthumb September 8, 2017 11:46 am

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are middles required to rotate out? Or if they are, can it be for fewer rotations than Maglio currently is? I am thinking of that problem rotation, what you folks are calling the sticky one. Could she come back in at that one instead of later?

That said, I liked how Coach Robyn had her on the outside partially, and appreciated some of the differences in the back row attack last night. Granato showed some flashes back there even though they didn’t seem to surprise the opponents.

Really impressed with Kahakai’s serves last night and her continuing overall grit.

  53. Hapaguy September 8, 2017 12:07 pm

Agree with you vbfan. I still think that Cal Poly is the team to beat this year mainly because of the two Van Winden’s. I haven’t seen Irvine play so no idea. As for our team, I like how Castillo’s hitting has improved. They need to stick to having Greeley playing back row for her though. OH2 looks solidified if Castillo can keep up the good hitting. The opposite position is still a big question mark. I thought that Shaney would take that spot but still no word on whats up with her. I’ve been asking and nobody seems to have a definitive answer on what her injury is and if she will even play this year (redshirting?). Anyone know what’s the scoops with Shaney?

  54. Chicken Grease September 8, 2017 12:31 pm

    Ms. Luis,

Please demand new laptop or computer from Star-Advertiser bosses. Business need, tell them. You are usually headstrong ’bout most things. Why not this?

    Thank you.

  55. greenthumb September 8, 2017 12:41 pm

42, no consolation, but AT&T is poor again this season in the arena. Real spotty when we were at a match last weekend.

  56. warriorwahine September 8, 2017 5:11 pm

supposedly wahine in the 5th set were in a bad rotation perhaps similar to the 2nd set being decimated by san diego, i believe cindy said it was something about norene in the front row?? has robyn fixed that? like sub her out for kendra if size was an issue?

also could wahine do some tactics like spike in two (set not needed/already assumed) or pokey it over like beach to catch the opponent by surprise?

what about double attacking the block?

  57. Cindy Luis September 8, 2017 5:12 pm

    http://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=44653
    new thread up for BYU-Nevada
    Cougars win 25-18

    About the redshirts
Ah Mow-Santos said she hasn’t decided about redshirting anyone.
if you rmember Manu-Olevao was redshiriting until the Big West road trip when Croson got suspended.

Libscomb was cleared late into two-a-days. she said she’s better but I wouldn’t be surprised if she does redshirt. they haven’t decided about Gong either.

    55. wireless problem would be the same regardless of what computer I have. happened with my phone, the iPad, etc.
Headstrong? never been accused of that. ‘-)
