Warriors at full staff heading to spring ball

Five days from the start of spring training, Nick Rolovich has a complete coaching staff. Here’s what the hiring of Michael Ghobrial means:

> Unlike predecessor Mayur Chaudhari, who also coached the tight ends and then defensive ends, Ghobrial will focus, for now, exclusively on the specialists. He’s known as a meticulous and positive-thinking teacher who should be helpful in improving the Warriors’ place-kicking. There were five games in which the Warriors did not attempt a field goal. And when they did, they connected on 44 percent (4 of 9).

> Jeff Ulbrich, the Atlanta Falcons’ linebackers coach and a former UH linebacker, is one of the rising stars in the coaching ranks. Ulbrich worked with Ghobrial when both were at UCLA. Ulbrich was one of many noted coaches to endorse Ghobrial for the UH job.

> A coach’s life is about recruiting, studying, teaching and meetings. Lots of meetings. As a former UCLA d-end and a background in coaching defense, it can be assumed Ghobrial will attend some defensive meetings. After all, playing coverage is like playing defense with a running start.

Excited to see the impact by the new coaches, especially on defense. Lots of experience coming in both sides.

When is UH going to post their 2018 Spring Football Roster? Interested in seeing who actually plans to be here for the coming season.

    Who’s the OL coach?

  7. Kahuna March 16, 2018 5:09 pm

#6….some dude named Weber. Supposedly been around college football for a long time. Great hire IMHO

Do we have a mascot yet?

    Worse than losing to Chaminade.

    9.

    It’s karma.

You can link the Maryland-Baltimore County to Hawaii through the usage of tiki-torches(“Hawaiian” kitsch) during that unfortunate tragedy on the Charlottesville campus.

    …County win to…

    The RPI is overrated.

The #14 team shouldn’t have a pitcher coming out of the bullpen with a 16.20 ERA pitching the eight in a crucial situation.

Mark Weber, OL coach, comes to Hawaii from Fresno State where he last coached in 2016…36 years coaching experience with stops at Utah St, BYU, North Carolina, UCLA, UNLV, Nevada, Missouri Western State College, Oregon St, West Texas St., Eastern New Mexico, Snow College, and Idaho St (GA).

Ganot has to become one of the dominant teams in the conference. Get in and anything can happen. So junk the Big West today. Unbelievable.

BTW terrific, solid hire. Like minded guy that should mesh well with this staff to keep this mojo going into the spring, With 100 percent focus on special teams no less. Someone has to fix the actual kicking aspect of the “Kicking game”, his resume fits our particular job description really well. I like the well roundedness of this coaching staff. Good Mojo…… so under rated

All the hires made to replace departed staff members in my opinion is an upgrade. I am sure others may dispute this but when kickoff comes I am sure my opinion will substantiate that. Less than one week away. Spring is always a little crude especially having to plug in JC guys in key spots. This spring will be a teaching coaching clinic with installment and development being the focus. On another note a nice win by the BB team. Take a look at ISU’s record-they have some really wild scores in the previous games lending itself to some of the stats. GoWarriors!!!!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    MANEO!!!

Bring vili back or the warrior with the huge muscles. I actually liked that one.

  19. Inyoface March 17, 2018 8:02 am

Maybe a new vili like a Moana looking type.

  20. H-Man March 17, 2018 8:11 am

Vili wasn’t free. Maybe ST can clarify, but I believe Vili had a contract for $25K/yr. A contract encouraged/influenced by June Jones.

    14. If the Big West is a junk basketball league, UMBC, who beat #1 Virginia, comes from the America East rated # 23 after the Big West #22.
    ————————————————————————————–
What a baseball game last night, they came from behind two times and the last hit by Baeza with 2 outs was unbelievable. They all rushed out of the dugout like they had won the Big West championship or the World Series.
