Warrior Beat: Strong start for Farris

Breaking up, the lyrics say, is hard to do.

Not for cornerback Roe Farris, who is quietly having a superb year.

This season, Farris, a fourth-year junior, has allowed only two completions — none for touchdowns. He also has held in check some gifted receivers.

What’s more, Farris has taken on an expanded role. In the past week’s game against Navy, he slid into the tackle box as a corner-rover.

Entering the season, the cornerback position was one of the Warriors’ top units. Farris is proving to be its leader.

He’s a great DB. Got him mixed up with ikem Okeke. They know there positions. I’m not aware of who Skippa Diaz was, but for local favorites, a lot of names already. Already know who Blaine Gaison was. Locals and mainlanders playing together to win. Hopefully UH defense plays as well as Cole McDonald is playing. Rice game.

  4. Savich September 5, 2018 12:22 pm

I think UH football can go 12-1 or 13-0. But they will be ranked no higher than #7 in the nation. Cole can lead them out of the wilderness and into the land that flows fresh water and where foods are plentiful. Cole is Hawaii’s Moses. A leader of the pack. The known ones that passed through the red sea. Cole is making a name as a top 10 quarterbacks heading to the promised land, NFL.

Dayfassagger Hagger was 6-6 tall. Hawai’i player. Maybe in the NFL.

Of course. Rolo’s the main guy. If they don’t screw this up. Don’t let us down.

  8. Whats up September 5, 2018 12:57 pm

    I say again:

Rolo is doing the right thing bringing back the Hawaii Warrior era RnS and uniforms, then add that Island logo with “H” logo beautiful helmet that just inspires Hawaii State pride and swag

Folks, just relax and enjoy watching the Hawaii Warrior boys look good, feel good, play good in Hawaii Warrior era uniforms that Rolo, Stutzman, Smith, Chad Owens, Bess, Colt Brennan, Bryant Moniz, Nate Ilaoa, Leonard Peters, Samson Satele, Greg Salas, Keahola Pilares, Jason Rivers, Ryan Grice-Mullen and so many more that play with Hawaii Warrior swag.

    Go Warriors!

Oregon Ducks VIP lounge area is built for millionaire statistics. Not bad Hawai’i. Ground floor look open view of players. Big screen tv. Foods, drinks. Private rooms. Copy Oregon Ducks football stadium or sports complex. Nicest in the nation.

Who would’ve thought when Kaepernick played UH while with Nevada he would turn out to be such a national controversial figure.

  12. MoistMan September 5, 2018 1:51 pm

I think they go 10-3 and turn heads. Just got to keep out scoring and keeping the pedal on the gas. Should try to get some back up for the LT when they reload next year.

  13. Da Punchbowl Kid September 5, 2018 3:30 pm

Faris and the other DBs have been playing well. As with the rest of the team, we haven’t seen their best yet. This team is truly something special.

  14. Andrew September 5, 2018 4:14 pm

One advantage Hawaii has over other West division teams like SDSU and Fresno State is that they have to play Boise this year. That’s already one possible conference loss each

  15. UH Fan for Life September 5, 2018 4:25 pm

#10 – that was a game for the ages. LB Corey Paredes forced two fumbles including knocking the ball out of Kaepernick’s hand for a touchback as Kaepernick was highstepping into the end zone, and Richard Torres and Mana Silva both had interceptions.

  16. suckkabooya September 5, 2018 5:06 pm

Hopefully Hawaii will play Boise St. too.

Talk on 1420AM ESPN The Sports Animals show regarding certain teams who might need an extra game due to called-off games due to weather so far this season.

One of ‘em is Nebraska? (I’m not sure of their recent circumstance) 13th for Hawaii? Frost can be shown what MANY Hawaii guys can do (especially run-and-shoot)!

  21. roygbivs September 5, 2018 9:29 pm

Rice is steaming afta dat loss to da oddah UofH

    We can’t let up fo a second….
full petal to the metal ….

3game, another opportunity to get that win.

  22. Jessejames September 5, 2018 9:56 pm

Good evening Tsaikos. Hope all is well. One game at a time. Defense needs work but I think they’ll be ok. Keep on scoring offense. No matter who we play… never give up… lay on the gas and don’t look back or let up…until the game is over.

If you guys want to come to the tailgate and game let me know and I’ll give you the info I

It easy for us to focus on the Hawaii high scoring offense but the Hawaii defense is getting it’s swag back.

As I rewatch both the Colorado State and Navy games, I noticed an improvement from in defense from last year. This years defense plays faster and has some speed side line to side line. I remember a slower poor tackling defense last season and during the Chow/Ben Jay era.

Jalani Tavai, Solomon Matautia, Eugene Ford, Roe Farris, Kalen Hicks, Ikem Okeke, Jeffery Keene, Manly Williams, Blessman Ta’ala, Zeno Choi are Warrior defense standouts! I got to give LB Penei Pavihi credit for stepping up in the Colorado State game in place of Jalani Tavai… Kudos to Penei.

It could be that Coach Batoon schemes are just putting the players in the right spot to pursue the ball quicker or the RnS/RPO offense is scoring at will and gives the defense a lift in confidence and the Batoon can call more aggressive defense with a potent high scoring offense.

Give the Hawaii Warrior defense credit.

#5 Davasyia Hagger transferred to Humbolt State to play basketball. He is not an NFL prospect.

  25. cappie the dog September 6, 2018 5:54 am

Scott Frost is living in the eighties.

Haircut One Hundred, Krull, “What you talkin’ ’bout Willis?”

He doesn’t realize that Central Florida is the better job.

When it’s cherry-picking season again, the SEC or ACC will put the Golden Knights in their basket.

If Central Florida joined the SEC, I would look into changing their nickname.

  26. islandman September 6, 2018 10:00 am

    22. Defense is good in the 1st half so far in the 2 games. But allowing 37.5 pts per game compared to 33.9 last season.
Offense is averaging about 7 TD’s per game compared to 3 TD’s last year.

  27. Boolakanaka September 6, 2018 10:18 am

I agree UCF is the better job—and FL has no state taxes- hence why a ton of pro athletes live there.

  28. A-House September 6, 2018 10:25 am

if the D is allowing so much points, how does one begin to rate the D?

great in the 1st half and then bottom falls out? if so, why?

believe Navy scored more points in the 2nd half than CSU — interesting dynamics in progress!

worst scenario is UH players getting “cocky” — coaches job to keep them in line — OK to celebrate, but back to square one during, after game and start getting ready for the next triple option offense

be interesting to form an opinion of who was best after playing Army

    Rice in da house???

  29. A-House September 6, 2018 10:29 am

    Boola:

for the longest time — I thought only Nevada had no state income tax, but now realize there are 3 or 4 more with no state tax

for Nevada — don’t know how much the casinos contribute, but the highway conditions in and around Vegas leave a lot to be desired — especially the lane markings!

  30. A-House September 6, 2018 10:43 am

any updates on Moore — the 6′ 8″ OL and late addition to the team?

    likely ‘ red-shirt ‘ in 2018?

  31. Boolakanaka September 6, 2018 10:45 am

A house…also Washington State and Texas. But it’s a shell game, merely made up in real estate taxes…

  32. PONO September 6, 2018 10:56 am

If you’re a home owner the no state income tax is not that big of a deal since those states have higher real estate taxes so it’s a semi-wash. I think Moore needs a year to hit the weight room.

  33. H-Man September 6, 2018 11:17 am

Why Nebraska for Scott Frost? 7-year, $5 mil/yr; $35 mil total contract value with performance bonuses. Plus, Frost has $5 mil annual budget to spend on salaries for his staff. Frost is a native Nebraskan who was the starting QB for Tom Osborne’s ’97 team; a team that was co-national champion with Michigan. Nebraska is taking care of a native son.

  34. winning September 6, 2018 11:33 am

12-1? Not so fast. Maybe 9-4, optimistically speaking. Not enough D depth to rest up players against great D teams. They’ll be on the field awhile if O goes three and out too many times. That’s the Achilles Heel.

  35. islandman September 6, 2018 12:15 pm

Florida has a sales tax of 6
    to 8% per the internet. Hawaii’s is4%.

  36. A-House September 6, 2018 12:40 pm

    #33:

i believe UH will be 8 – 0 after beating Wyoming and going to BYU.

BYU, like, Boise ST have good players — Boise St better tho — thus, UH beating Boise for the MWC championship, on the mainland, will be the 2nd cream of the top — surpassed only with a 1/1/2019 win at the Fiesta Bowl

    BELIEVE!!! players and coaches do!

  37. A-House September 6, 2018 12:42 pm

UH vs UCF at the Fiesta Bowl would be great!!!

place will be filled with Hawaii supporters for UH and M. Milton!!!

  38. Andrew September 6, 2018 12:48 pm

    36.

Maybe in make believe land. That would never happen
