Moniz signs with CFL

Former UH quarterback Bryant Moniz has signed a free-agent contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, according to head coach June Jones.

Earlier, the Tiger-Cats re-signed Jeremiah Masoli. Jones said he also traded for Vernon Adams, a former Oregon quarterback who succeeded Marcus Mariota. Adams started his collegiate career at Eastern Washington before transferring.

The Tiger-Cats also own the rights to Johnny Manziel. Jones said he is hopeful of signing Manziel, and keeping four quarterbacks on the Hamilton roster this season.

Not only are 49er fans happy that Jimmy Garoppolo signed a lucrative contract, it also was a hopeful sign for a former UH safety. Carter Chow, Norm’s son, is the agent for both Garoppolo and Trayvon Henderson.

That’s quite a group of qb’s that June is putting on his team.

    Haleakala:
I think in 2000, his second season at UH, Jones had eight or nine QBs on the roster.

we used to go into Aloha Stadium early and watch UH players warm up

Chad Kapanui, who was Roosevelt’s QB, would throw the ball 70-75 yards FLAT-FOOTED!!!!!!

some passes went 80 yards — we counted the “hash marks” to determine length

From yesterday’s post: “Some stay. Some go. That’s the nature of college football recruiting.” Mr. Tsai, that is some incredible insight to share with us there my brother – I would never have figured that out on my own!
“Ya see, some guys, well, they will go to UH, and some guys, well, they will go to other schools. You feel me? You dig?”
Okay, okay, I think I get it now, even though I’m half Portagee.
Kidding. You know I love you Mr. Tsai! Hope your recent medical procedure went well…

Hey want to celebrate recruiting class new staff and here’s to a quiet time prior to spring practice. Hope defectors are done and we can move on-very excited about things to come. Heard a great quote-“train hard….battle will be easy”GoWarriors!!!!

My thought was that Welch was the big catch and Faumui would be the gravy. Famui doesn’t know what he could have done for the Team and the State if he signed. It would’ve given the Warriors the momentum they needed to rebuild what we once were. Oh well, next year.

I was trying to quell the mob.
    Happy blog, happy life …

  17. Stephen Tsai February 9, 2018 2:17 pm

My other comment would have been “there, there,” and then give virtual pats on the back to UH fans miffed over losing a recruit. But I’ve covered UH long enough to know that everything works out in the end. Like the time when Jeremy Perry opted to ditch UH …

#9 – Thanks Big Wave. Hawaii’s seems to be a great training ground for football coaches.

  19. BigWave96744 February 9, 2018 3:50 pm

Tyson Helton who was a GA at Hawaii in 2000 and ST coach from 2001 to 2003 is now the OC at Tennessee.

Appreciate all your info, mr. tsai. as long as you don’t post stuff saying “there’s some very bad news coming, but I’d get in deep trouble if I say something.”
