The Warriors practiced early this morning (6:30 a.m.) in their final home workout before their scheduled departure to Los Angeles this afternoon.

Everyone appears to be in good shape — well, the exception being linebackers coach Sean Duggan, who underwent elbow surgery to repair an injury suffered during the Western Carolina game. But Duggan attended practice, and he’ll be coaching in Saturday’s game against UCLA.

Defensive graduate assistant Marc Moody has been helping out with the linebackers
Quarterback Dru Brown and slotback Dylan Collie
Slotback John Ursua

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Looking for a real competitive game this Saturday.
Will be watching and squeezing and being the ultimate arm chair qb….and the best referee too….
    IMUA WARRIORS!

  3. NorthShoreFan September 7, 2017 10:35 am

    and…defensive coach….and offensive play caller…and…

  4. kahuna September 7, 2017 10:35 am

I am concerned that Ursua will not be ready for the game. He looks to be in street clothes while everyone else is dressed for practice. Maybe it’s a good idea to hold him out for a more meaningful game against Wyoming. Don’t want to hurt the young man and then lose him for the rest of the season.

This is a “big” game but I think there are bigger games and coaches need to be smart about it.

  5. Maddog50 September 7, 2017 10:39 am

So the journey to climb the ladder to respectability begins. Don’t look to eat these words but UCLA sans Rosen is a middle of the PAC-PAC 12 opponent. Rosen when he’s on moves them up a notch-I don’t see this game behind any more challenging than the recent Cal or Arizona game except one thing-we are better now than we were in those game-I’ll have some “Bear meat please, with a side order of Rosen” GoWarriors!!!!!

  6. Bulla September 7, 2017 11:21 am

On your earlier post ST, did anyone call you a ‘flat tire’, I mean i know DPK used to but today it would have applied….just kidding. UCLA game, pivotal for so many reasons but if the team can just eliminate the mental errors and senseless penalties, they have a chance to be in the game…..GO WARRIORS!!!

  7. DaveLetterMan September 7, 2017 11:39 am

    Morning Tsaikos!

The Warriors are getting better each game. They have the heart, chemistry, skills and coaching to get even better.

    UH 38 – Da Bearsssss 31

    GO WARRIORS!!!

What time is their flight to LAX? 4:30 p.m. or is it 10:00 p.m. tonight. I hope they have a safe flight. We’ll see them back at Aloha Stadium on the 30th of September 2017, Saturday night game. predict 63-14 UCLA win. Sorry. UCLA is just faster.

  11. Pukalani boy September 7, 2017 12:01 pm

Hope o line protects Dru.. D line pressures Rosen…

  12. Sausage McMuffin with Eggs September 7, 2017 12:08 pm

I will be listening to the game on 1420 ESPN AM radio. Bobby Curran & Jon Veneri or UCLA announcers. Ursua is sitting out. He is banged up. Wyoming game too may be questionable. Ursua.

  13. Sausage McMuffin with Eggs September 7, 2017 12:19 pm

Since football is the epicenter of the UH athletics, all proceeds stemming from each home game goes directly to UH athletics. Tickets can be purchased online. Good luck to the team versus UCLA. I will be surprised if Hawai’i wins on Saturday.

  14. kanak September 7, 2017 12:32 pm

What’s status on Ursua? Need all hands on board esp with Dru’s tendency to check to slot… Go Bows!!!

  15. hilorain September 7, 2017 12:40 pm

    UH 33, UCLA 30

  16. 3-Prong September 7, 2017 12:41 pm

    HBD 2 U, HBD 2 U, HBD Mr. Tsaiiiiiiii, HBD 2 U!!!!!
    ….and many more!

…and of course, Let’s Go Bows!!

  17. PONO September 7, 2017 12:49 pm

What is the lingering injury that Ursua is suffering from?

I think we’ll put up a decent amount of points on the Bruins but our lack of pass rush will allow Rosen to carve up the secondary.

  18. Sausage McMuffin with Eggs September 7, 2017 1:23 pm

Also guaranteed loss to SDSU, Colorado state, and Wyoming. 8-4 record. win against Nevada, SJSU, UNLV, FSU, Utah state, BYU.

Rest of the way. Bowl game. Good year!

  19. bowwar September 7, 2017 1:26 pm

If Ursua is injured, then rest him…Next man up and I think both Timoteo and Tullis should be given opportunities to play slot along with Collie. The outside receivers gotta step up…I believe they should be giving Armstrong and Isaiah Bernard more playing time if Barker and Ewaliko don’t produce and stretch the field. What ever happened to Stubblefield??

  20. Sausage McMuffin with Eggs September 7, 2017 2:50 pm

Interestingly enough, instead of living out the story tales about Hawai’i and Waikiki, some people would rather read about them. With this bloggers I doubt this is so. They’d rather live those tales about Hawai’i. BOLOHEAD ROW, Chris McKinney, copyright 2005. Read it on flight. Interesting team.

  21. kahuna September 7, 2017 2:59 pm

Wyoming is three weeks away….UCLA, then a bye, then off to Laramie.

It sounded like Ursua was held out of Western Carolina in preparation for UCLA. Now that he is probably not ready for UCLA, I am getting worried it is more serious of an injury then was first reported.

Hope its not some kind of tear or broken bones. That would be a season killer.

  22. jm2375 September 7, 2017 3:27 pm

Happy Birthday to the Blog Guru, ST and his better half!

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

I am not a robot, but that verification is stupid and a waste of time. 👿

  23. H-Man September 7, 2017 3:40 pm

Best of luck to traveling Warriors !!

  24. Mytake September 7, 2017 3:42 pm

The home team sits mauka. The sun side is mauka. The hot side is mauka. The “H” logo faces ewa. Is that home field advantage? WTF is going on!?

  25. Mytake September 7, 2017 3:44 pm

    Sorry. Logo faces makai

  26. Chicken Grease September 7, 2017 3:59 pm

Happy birthday, Blog host TSAI!!!! ESPN 1420 AM Sports Animals (going on right now) mentioned your tanjyobi.

Maybe someone will buy Molokai Ranch for your birthday present, sir: https://tinyurl.com/yc6ypdz4

Or they can just GIVE you $260 million.

    Aloha Tsaiko’s,

Excited to be at the game on Saturday.

    UH – 44
    UCLA – 41

Does anyone know if we will be able to buy some UH march at the game anywhere?

    Go Warriors!!!

  30. cappie the dog September 7, 2017 9:22 pm

A silver lining sounds, admittedly, insensitive in the interim, but I guess it takes something akin to a potential weather-oriented apocalypse to get people’s attention. Maybe they can call off “The March For Science” next year. I saw UH’s march while entering the Stan Sheriff Center parking lot for a UH
baseball game. I patiently waited for some far-off people to cross, because, well, they believe in science. These are my people. Take your time. I will wait.

That said, I hope Hurricane Irma misses Florida.

    I’m not an ideologue.

Ideologues on both sides are equally wrong.

Flipping between CNN and the Pac-12 Network is not something I want to be doing.

That said, this is the year when we’re supposed to get carbon emissions down to 0.2%. According to author Naomi Klein, this is supposed to be Year Zero.

It’s already too late for coral reefs. They will all die by 2050. We’ve passed the tipping point.

The story of the Caribbean Islands is the story of Hawaii.

I actually questioned if I needed hurricane insurance earlier this year.

  31. Chicken Grease September 7, 2017 9:41 pm

At least we probably will not get hit for a long time, cappie. Hurricane have difficult time getting through the Pacific Ocean and to us.

Keep your fancy living, mainland. We got our healthy living and safe haven hea Hawaii.

  32. Chicken Grease September 7, 2017 10:13 pm

    Well. Another Wahine v-ball loss.

Think it’s time for Coach Ah Mow to start considering bringing onto staff some of last year’s Wahine graduates who are/might still be here. Isn’t Nikki Taylor still around kokua‘g at Kalani girls volleyball or something?

More transition (pardon THAT pun 🏐) from the Shoji era to [well, hope to be able to NOT end upnsaying “whatever THIS era is”] should be attempted here.

    Oh boy 🙄.

  33. roygbivs September 8, 2017 4:42 am

    UH 27 – 52 UCLA

*have to recruit better CB’s after this one

Will update the predictions on today’s new blog.
Just waiting on our tireless leader.
So today’s postings will be the last.
So tomorrow, Saturday you won’t be counted.
So hope to hear from ALL of you soon.
    Go Warriors.

Alright Tsaiko Nation we are psyched here with over 500 fans from all over LA invading the rose bowl plus those who are traveling from the Islands leading up to this most anticipated UH football game vs. the Bruins of UCLA !

Tailgates are set with Cisco Kid’s big bash inside the rose bowl parking lot then the official party at the Rose Bowl Rally. Both teams will be fired up to play as emotions will be sky high. Bows have to keep their wits about them while playing under control limiting any mental mistakes. UCLA is very talented especially their quarterback Rosen & tight end Wilson who is a beast when he catches the ball “yard after catch”.

Running Saint Juste is a must & Dru Brown scrambling around the pocket can catch UCLA defense sleeping with quick plays that can lead into BIG scores. Bottom line time for Hawaii to compete against the big boys as in the past nothing but blow outs. Will be there cheering them on. Let’s Go Bows !

  37. ai-eee-soos September 8, 2017 10:31 am

    from YardBarker …

    Hawai’i at UCLA (-23)

    Saturday, 5:00 p.m. ET

Josh Rosen showed why they call him the Rosen One after he pulled off one of the most epic comebacks in college football history against Texas A&M. The Bruins came back from a 38-10 halftime deficit behind Rosen’s 292-yard, four-touchdown fourth quarter. Was that a fluke, or are we seeing the emergence of the quarterback everyone hoped Rose would be?

    Pick: Hawai’i
