Ironman was made of mettle

During his five-year Warrior career, offensive lineman John Wa‘a was as reliable as a sunrise — which was fitting, because that’s the time he would be in full practice gear each weekday of the season.

He played in 50 of a possible 52 UH games, including 26 starts in a row through his senior-walk game.

But the final whistle at 7:25 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2017 also marked the end of an ironman career.

Wa‘a appears to have decided not to pursue pro-football opportunities. He declined an open invitation to participate in next week’s pro day.

Wa‘a is working with disabled adults and, according to a family member, “is enjoying it.”

We know, for sure, Wa‘a will do a good job … and not miss a day of work.

Great story ST. Mahalo Mr. Wa’a for being the greatest example of Warrior football. There is no calling more commendable than to give back to your community to people in need. No doubt your family and fans are very proud of the choices you made.

Dependable and tough. Gave them stability doing a lot of the dirty work allowing others to shine. Best of luck to Mr. Wa’a.
