Gallup poll

I remember I really wanted to vote for Hubert Humphrey for president because 1) the alliteration of his name, and 2) he was running against George Wallace and then Richard Nixon.(Even then, Alabama had questionable political candidates.)

The problem was I was 8 in 1968.

Thus, I understand the privilege and responsibility of being a voter.

But other than running the high school football poll for a few years with The Advertiser a long, long time ago, I don’t get invited to vote on football polls or player-of-the-year ballots very often. But a few years ago, the folks with the Biletnikoff Award started sending me a ballot. I was honored because 1) I actually got to see Biletnikoff play in person and 2) after several Google attempts, I learned how to spell his name.

Anyway, to make a short story long, I voted for Michael Gallup of Colorado State. (I would have voted for John Ursua, but he wasn’t on the final list because his season ended prematurely.)

According to a private-school coach whose last name rhymes with Gee, the Saint Louis recruits still are solid commits to UH.

Half the staff is recruiting on the mainland, the other half locally this week.

Recruiting gonna be fun this year. What do the folks here on our blog think are the most pressing needs?

Recruiting season is always exciting. Sometimes the results temper the high, but it’s an exciting time nonetheless. So it is really nice to hear that the young men of Kalaepohaku are solid in their commitments to play for the home team. All the present commits look good, but we need a few more local boys to stay home too. #Be a Warrior

OL-DL-DE-WR. With the commits we have QB is not a concern. Still would like to know if Ernie, Blessman, Josiah and Borden are still in the fold. We have needs for immediate impact right now not projects or futures-GoWarriors!!!

On another note for those that think that only a few states and a few games now matter during bowl season-Millions of folks tune into the tons of these games for the enjoyment of the contest. Just because someone doesn’t and their sphere of friends bears no relevance on anything. The best games in my opinion are lost I the glare and glitz of the National Title game of self importance. I’m a huge Warrior fan and same for College football, as are my sons their friends my friends and everybody in my sphere-so much for balance.

I’m not a football expert, nor a football “junkie”. I never coached football and didn’t played the game very much. But I am a Hawai’i Warriors fan!!! And for what it’s worth, I’m very glad we have Rolo as our head coach and I trust him. Next year is looking great – hey, we’re undefeated to far!! Go Warriors!!

    And am I really first?

    Merry Christmas!

I feel bad for Rolo. But we need something. That’s for sure. I just hope he figures things out.

    Ah Cal Gee. Amazing coach.

Why did the women’s volleyball coach , Robin, have to have a meeting with the Foootball team this year ?
Is it to do with the swept under the table ,
    UH women’s lockeroom incidents ?

    1. Drug screening
    2. Mental competency filter

As a long time Warrior football fan, I am just disappointed that Warrior football head coach Nick Rolovich is returning for another year. Not only he returning, but Rolo may have decided to not fire anyone on his coaching staff, most especially on the Defensive side. Hawaii is in for another disasterous year in 2018.
Don’t blame injuries or lack of skill of players on the Warrior football roster – ITS THE LACK OF EXPERIENCE OF OUR HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AND HIS ENTIRE COACHING STAFF!. Blame the coaches not the players for Warrior football collapsing this year.
Heck they should have been facing the Houston Cougers in this year Hawaii Bowl and not Fresno State!.

I learned on “The Rachel Maddow Show” that Ronald Reagan won the nomination by courting all of the George Wallace supporters, driving the Republican Party even farther to the right than Richard Nixon. He began his campaign by speaking in the town where those three Civil Rights workers were killed, as seen in Alan Parker’s “Mississippi Burning”.

I wish these people were still alive: Susan Sontag, David Foster Wallace and Roger Ebert, voices that could soothe hearts and minds.

The news cycle is exhausting to watch.

  26. cappie the dog December 4, 2017 10:13 pm

Did the football team have a strong leader?

What I liked about tonight’s women’s basketball game is that Hawaii’s point guard, Tia Kanoa, took over the huddle during a timeout and read the riot act to her teammates after some sloppy turnovers. Kanoa comes in, I think, with some Pac-12 swagger and afterglow.

    And they responded.

Montana State was a pretty decent low mid-major.

    UH 2000 Staff – 3-9 Record:
    Jones – HC/OC
    Lempa – DC
    Cavanaugh OL
    Lee – WRs
    Morrison – QBs
    Suan – RBs
    Singletary – DL
    Lumpkin – LBs
    Miano – DBs
    McKnight – STs

Curious as to which coaches should have been fired after UH went 3-9 in 2000?

Funny how locals cry and scream about firing a UH coach, but say nothing about the clowns running the Mental Hospital in Kaneohe (“Oh well, no can help”).

BYU OL pre-game warm-up — did any one notice that the OL was using a rubber ball to practice hitting in the chest area?

one would hold the ball and “puncher” would aim for the middle of the ball — me tinks an excellent method for OL to “punch” the middle of the DL chest and not “grab” the shoulders or arm
