Former QB joins UH staff as intern

Kolney Cassel, a backup quarterback for UH last season, will serve as an intern for the Warriors.

It should be an easy transition for Cassel, who spent every day in the quarterback room in meetings, video reviews and exchanging ideas.

Even before his stint as a graduate transfer, Cassel had deep knowledge of the Warriors’ run-and-shoot offense. He began his NCAA career as a quarterback at SMU under June Jones.

Cassel has proven to be a helpful teammate. Prior to the game against Wyoming, Cassel portrayed Cole McDonald during warmups to not tip off the starting QB’s injury. On Tuesday, he went to UH’s pro day with the specific intent of being the designated passer for John Ursua. In order to be allowed to participate in the field drills, he had to participate in sprints and other activities.

Tavai definitely has NFL talent. He is a solid tackler, probably because of his rugby background. It’s great if you can lay a guy out, but the main object is to tackle, and Tavai is solid at that.
IMHO, the best LB we’ve had since Pisa, although Pisa was a little faster.
It was a pleasure to watch Ursua play, and although he had a few drops, maybe our best slot since Chad Owens. Not sure if he can take the beating in the NFL, but these are two good kids and we’ll be cheering for them.

    Welcome Kolney!

Happy to see that Jahlani and John did well at the combine. Good luck to both, I really loved watching them play Warrior!

‘Attaway, Kolney. Support your Warrior teammates!

Agree with Manoa Mist, except for a minor clarification. Pisa was a lot faster than Tavai, he was a legit 4.5 guy. Sole could run….fastest sole though, in my personal experience was David Toloumu who could get down to the low 4.4s….

Is this what the fuss is all about ?

Hawaii: Woody Blevins, the corners coach and special teams coordinator at Northern Colorado (FCS), has joined the Hawaii staff, per source.

Hi fellow Warrior fans, are you going to UNLV this year Nov 16?

the ticket office is giving me priority (over some season ticket holders) and giving me get the same block of 300 seats we had 2 yrs ago right behind our Warrior bench at the 50 yd line; so let me know if you want me to reserve you some.

I’ve been told Tavai will likely end up with one of the L.A. teams. My guess is Chargers.

Always a joy to see Warriors going to the next level. Good morning to all the Tsaikos out there and remember, tomorrow is promised to no one so play nicely.

Late in the Belmont/Maryland game, #10 for the Bruins could have picked up a charge, but it looked like he didn’t have the desire to engage in any contact. Sheriff Drammeh was always willing to give up his body for the team. Give him credit for that. I’ll miss him.

Tickets for the Rams-Cowboys game sold out in less than a day. This tells me there is a huge football fan base in Hawaii and should provide inspiration to UH Athletics to draw out these fans to UH football games.

Sometimes I think how good the basketball team after the 2016 season would have been if most the players returned, I know the pending sanctions had to do with a lot of their decisions. In other news, UC Irvine on to the next round.

#17 – it depends who bought the tickets.

Are you kidding? Only time Stadium sold out for football is Pro Bowl (and maybe June Jones years for some games).

Just make TC Ching field the new UH football stadium. Add more bleachers. Spruce up/tech’-up the place more. Do the TC Ching stadium dance, Chi-chi-chi! There are worse D-1 stadiums. Wake up.

Great that the Run and Shoot will have someone to carry the torch. June Jones will be a happy man.
