Center gets attention — and a scholarship

Head coach Nick Rolovich confirmed that center Taaga Tuulima has been placed on scholarship.

Tuulima, who aspires a post-football career in engineering, was an important bridge when center Asotui Eli suffered an injury in the fourth quarter against San Diego State. Tuulima played center the final two UH series.

The next game, Tuulima started against UNLV, when the Warriors amassed 400 yards.

This past spring training, Tuulima practiced with the first team when Eli worked an internship.

In UH’s offense, the center makes the blocking calls and voices the cadences.

Tuulima was a multi-sport athlete at ‘Iolani School, who also earned honors for his work in the classroom.

He joined the Warriors as a walk-on in August 2016. He redshirted that season, practicing as a defensive lineman. He shifted to offense last year.

Congrats to Taaga. I am pretty sure he will raise some eyebrows with his play 6-2 ish 280 ish is a nice size at the center spot. Coach Weber will groom him to excell. Looking forward to him assuming a leadership role. Congrats again! Go Warriors!!!

Just what you expect from an Iolani grad. Keep it up.

Congrats and a well deserved scholarship to Taaga! He kind of reminds me of Lene Amosa from years back.

Off topic: Saw the SA article on a possible attack from NK (again). The threat of a Matson Dock workers strike and no Toilet Paper poses a much greater threat to Hawaii over missiles from NK (where its people are eating grass and dirt).
