Gameday: Long Beach State

Anything has been in play when Long Beach State and Hawaii have squared off at the Stan Sheriff Center in recent years.

UH has won going away. LBSU has dominated. The Bows have won in overtime, and on and on. It’s made for an entertaining and unpredictable series.

Unfortunately for UH, it seems forward Mike Thomas will miss his second straight game with his unspecified injury he suffered in the first half at UC Irvine last week. That means Gibson Johnson, Jack Purchase, Zigmars Raimo, Samuta Avea and Ido Flaisher are all going to have to man up against the formidable front line of The Beach, which had its way in an 89-81 win at the Pyramid to open BWC play last month.

LBSU shot 63 percent in that one and needed only one 3-pointer.

UH, which has lost three straight at home, is feeling rejuvenated by its road sweep last week. Both games could’ve gone either way but the Bows dug deep to pull them out. LBSU, meanwhile, has lost three of four. It will go inside early and often to its front line of Gabe Levin and Temidayo Yussuf.

Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine basketball team finished off a big 56-54 win at Cal State Northridge, thanks to some heady late plays and 14 points and 10 rebounds from Sarah Toeaina. UH limited the damage from CSUN center Channon Fluker, who had 24 points and 12 rebounds. (For her against UH, that counts as limited.)

Edon Maxhuni should have came to UH. I don’t think he fits the freelancing style of LBSU. He only average 0.6 assist a game. To compare it to UH…..our 5th leading assist player have more apg then Maxhuni.

A sign of a good pg is your assist to turnover ratio. Edon not only does not play much, he does not get much assist. LBSU don’t play defense either. Our guards are much more well rounded IMHO.

It must be awkward to see your teammates succeed without you.

Mike Thomas is a team guy.

    Good body language.

    East Carolina lost again.

I thought for sure Maxhuni would choose Hawaii.

When did Alberts choose LBSU? I thought he was headed for Virginia Commonwealth.
