Grand Slam was a big hit

The 16th Grand Slam Celebration was one of the largest — about 600 attendees — and lucrative.

A lot of the credit goes to the players, who served as greeters, and set-up and clean-up workers.

It was a busy weekend for the ‘Bows. They played the alumni game on Saturday afternoon, then helped set up the Stan Sheriff Center following that night’s basketball game. They practiced yesterday morning, then met to work the Grand Slam event.

The ‘Bows open the season Friday against Air Force, last year’s NCAA batting champion.

PItcher/first baseman Logan Pouelsen, first baseman Eric Ramirez, and third baseman Ethan Lopez
Outfielder Adam Fogel and starting pitcher Jackson Rees
Center fielder Dylan Vchulek
The man who needs no name tag … Les Murakami

Great Pics. Bows projected to finish 7th. What do the players think?

    H-Man:
I think the team is pretty excited for the season.
It’s gonna be crazy when they go down to LSU for a series.

Good luck to the Base Bows!
The team looks pretty solid all around this year.
Pitching should be good and may be even better next year.
    Let’s Go Bows!

Good to see Les still going! I remember going to UH’s baseball clinic in the late 90’s and seeing Les help out groups of us kids back then.

I remember Les Murakami as a young man. The program was being built so they had guys playing and practicing with no real games back in the early 70,s. Remember giving some of the players a ribbing by saying ok your on a team that doesn’t play any games? I was such a knuckle head back then-hoping they have a good year-

Logan Pouelsen looks more like a 40 year-old used car salesman than a 19 year-old sophomore.

FYI — some ingenious person developed an electronic gadget that will “steal” your electronic signal each time you open/close your door.

then, they will open your car and take whatever fancies them

already happening on the mainland — people have complained to the police who say they cannot assist because your car was NOT broken into — is there not an illegal entry or unauthorized entry law?

Coach Les still looks good — each time we went to the Grand Slam, I would always approach him to talk story about the good ole days — mind was till sharp!

missed the last 2, but hope to go next year

we are truly “calabash” — his first cousin married my first cousin!

Was great to see Jason Ross take some hacks on Saturday. He’s still an impressive physical speciman. Of course members of the Wahine volleyball team where there to cheer him on.

    Les Murakami is looking good!

Maddog50 noted there were players with no games. A few years earlier, there was no baseball field either and no money to build one. I heard that some of Les Murakami’s friends appeared one night with heavy equipment and cleared the rocks, rubble and weeds where the stadium is now…before UH could object about procurement rules and insurance liability. I would like to hear the real story from Les. Could you get that, ST?

    GOOD DAY, HAWAII!

“I heard that some of Les Murakami’s friends appeared one night with heavy equipment and cleared the rocks, rubble and weeds where the stadium is now…before UH could object about procurement rules and insurance liability. ”

Just take action lest you have to wait years before anything gets done! You can apologize later.

    Hi Tom!
Back in those days I suspect it was a few cases of beer, pupus, and supporters “borrowing” the heavy equipment for the evening. 😉

Yeah !!! LSU will be a really good test to see how the Bows stack up. Glad the guys are ra’rin to go !

Paying customer on Les Murakami. Because he’s dead. Long time ago. Plus short.

I played for the NY Yankees, 1992-2006. Truthfully.

    Pfff…KIF

Les Murakami, would have made 80 years old this year. Former HC Rainbows.

UH was 20th in NCAA baseball attendance last season out of 299 schools ( Top 25).
