Utah State overpowers Hawaii, 56-17, tonight at Aloha Stadium.
The Warriors suffered their fourth consecutive loss to fall to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the MWC.

But to halt a three-game losing streak, the 6-4 Warriors need to reboot their running game and pump the brakes on an Aggie offense that scores on 55.6 percent of their possessions.
Plus, one of the Aggies compares QB Jordan Love to Patrick Mahomes, who is the most successful passer in the NFL this season.

19. Regarding donations to UH athletics, i could find there was $5 million from the Clarence T C Ching foundation which helped build the Athletic Complex named after him. A $2 million total donation from an anonymous lady donor in 2011 plus 2015 and a $1 million donation from the Waterhouse Trust in 2015.
Not sure how USU became the favored team over the years.

I think there will come a day when even San Jose St football moves ahead of Hawaii football. Utah St did it.
Firing Rolo will be the biggest blessing to Rolo and his family. Some other team will pick him up and Hawaii will be an after thought. The coaching changes will continue because the athletic funding at UH cannot keep up with the times.
The Corm Plow disaster was a symptom of the bigger problem at UH. What major donor (donation in the millions) would give money to a school that cannot even manage their own finances (Wonder blunder)?
Also, are there enough big time donors that want to donate to UH athletics? The state cannot or will not make up the difference to produce a winning program.
It’s all about money. Other teams have them, UH doesn’t.

The state cannot or will not spend the money to produce a winning program.
Has this state ever wasted money on other projects? Compare those projects with the rate of return the state will receive in spending the money. If the economic benefit to the state in creating a qaulity college football team is greater than any other state project out there, then the state should spend the money and build a qaulity athletic program at UH. If not, continue on wasting money on other state projects and have UH keep on hiring new HC every 5 or 6 years.
UNLV, one more chance to get that 7th win. At this point, nothing is a guarantee. I guess a 7-6 record is better than a 3-9 record.
Good news is UNLV and San Diego next. San Diego st struggled with new mexico today. Maybe get chance……..maybe

As bad as it has been the second half of the season, the last thing the team needs is a bunch of firings in the offseason. This team needs some consistency at key coaching positions if we are to ever see any growth.
The one guy I’d like to see fired is Brian Smith. Not sure what he has brought to the team. We all know that Rolo is the OC anyway. Bump that guy down to a position coach or make him handle the logistical stuff for Rolo so it can free him up to focus more on the offense.
I wouldn’t even keep Brian Smith for a position coach. OC is way out of his capabilities at this level. He has also done squat coaching the RB’s. He needs to go. I’ll give Batoon one more season to redeem himself. Brian Smith on the other hand has had several years to prove himself but failed miserably. This is just my opinion.

Was a time when UH beat Utah (now a P5, Pac-12 member) regularly! Never mind Utah State! Pains me to say that UH Football is moving towards becoming a memory in some showcase in the Lower Campus at this rate from the lack of support. Firing assistants is like rearranging deck furniture on the Titanic. UH has fallen behind other MWC schools in terms of facilities, resources, training methods, and overall support, which has affected recruiting. USU and Boise State do a great job of attracting talented athletes in very conservative cities. They must be doing something right to convince players to spend 4-5 years there.
Putting on the field a team made up of ill prepared players who lack comparable athletic skills, size, speed, and strength is foolish, irresponsible, and dangerous to the player’s wellbeing. Noticed how “chiseled” many of the USU players looked compared to UH (particularly their RB #5 who wouldn’t go down).
It seems that there are people in high places in Hawaii who would be happy to see UH Football fade away and die.
In other words, it’s a systemic problem.
The secondary was Utah State weakness, Hawaii receivers were getting open often. Just to many drop passes, miscommunication and some errand throws.
While Utah State secondary was suspect and rest of the team was dominate over Hawaii young roster. Furuta has to playing with injuries because he has lost a step the past few games.
Fresno State, BYU and Utah State are team that are loaded with Junior and Senior leadership experience. So it’s no surprised Hawaii struggled mightily. SDSU is another team that Hawaii might have struggles with at the end of the regular season on the road at San Diego.
Nevada was a winnable game but coaching lost that game early.
After playing 11 straight games, Hawaii needs this BYE week to rest up, focus and prepare for UNLV.
Coaches and the Young Warriors of Hawaii take advantage of the BYE week and then show no mercy and go all out like there is no tomorrow against UNLV. Take back that swag and clinch the Hawaii Bowl birth on 17 November at Aloha Stadium.

One key reason USU got to where they are now – providing the program the tools to have a chance to be competitive. UH/State officials are fine with returning to the days of players drinking water from rubber hoses and eating corner flakes and mangoes picked up on the way to class or the dorm. Might as well got back to playing Hawaii Marines and Prep All Stars.

Kev-1, Brian, besides being the OC, is the running back coach. And since the production of this position has been dismal these past few games, Brian does come into the cross-hairs. But there’s so many things going wrong with the team, it would be wrong to focus solely on Brian. I say take aim at Rolo, but then who or what can you hire to replace him for $450K/year? Without State support to boost the program, or somehow a private donor comes out of the woodwork to commit $$$milliions, the program will always be as it is – a struggling Group-of-Five program relegated to the bottom half of the conference. Cost-of-Tuition has changed the landscape of college sports, especially football. And the big AND is that Hawaii has not kept up with the pack by failing to commit to upgrade its facilities. Ii has affected recruiting. And there is another thing that sticks under my craw. The State thinks nothing of spending millions on housing the homeless; spending good money after bad on the Rail Project and spending millions more on other programs like building a state-of-the-art new prison, upgrading the state’s marinas, upgrading the parks…I could go on and on. I’m not saying these should not be attended to, but somewhere along the way, our state has forgotten UH Athletics. Maybe they didn’t forget, but cannot stomach the cost to run a D1 football program. Shucks, the State and the City has a difficult time maintaining our roads. It’s no wonder they have a really hard time managing programs a bit more difficult or complicated.
Props to Cole McDonald who took a beating from USU, but kept getting back up, true freshman Khoury Bethley who was all over the field (leading tackler), along with Kai Kaneshiro and Solomon Mautatia.

#61 Kev-1 … I’m with you on Brian Smith. I also feel the same about Elimimian. It’s good to see Bethley and Kaneshiro making plays. They should be starters IMO as the rest of the secondary is invisible. I have not lost hope in Rolo and Batoon, but we need more talent for sure. A win over UNLV and this is a successful season. We need Tavai for that one. Hope he can come back.
Matt Wells was 3-9 in 2016 and on the verge of losing his job. He’s turned it around. Hope we can do the same.
you know the biggest sign of lack of commitment that the university has to sustaining and marketing the UH football program is that there is no youtube channel dedicated to creating professionally done videos marketing and documenting the football team, creating hype up videos and behind the scenes specials to make the fans (especially younger fans, not the old uncles who don’t even go on social media) excited about the team and connect to them.

star advertiser has done a few videos that are only 2 minutes long to give a sneak peek at the football team, but nothing consistent or even interesting. And it can’t even just be a “well, iowa, georgia, texas a&m, and all those guys are powerhouse programs” issue. Utah state has a channel.
In all honesty, while this losing streak is breathtakingly disappointing—we frankly have more wins than most any predicted.
A win in the next 2-3 games will salvage the season. Moreover, the fourth season of any coach is the real “river season” and probably the most accurate indicator on where this program is situated relative to our league and from where we were previously under NC. Fortunately, for Rolo, he will be returning close to 18-19 starters and most of his staff in tact. That said, from my perch, he probably needs to either shift some folks or make another hire (replacement) or two to his current coaching staff.
If he is able to manage another two wins this season —including a possible bowl game, if I were the current administration, I would make the unilateral move of bumping him up to the 600-650 range, and also include another 150-200 for staff raises. Here is the logic—if he does what I think he can next season and has a 8-9plus win season, he has the AD and upper campus in a superior bargaining position and it will ultimately cost us more by waiting a year….
Who made the non- conference schedule for next season ? It looks like a killer to me, including Arizona, Oregon St., Washington, and Army plus Central Arkansas.

Of more recent vintage, it was odd passing UH softball and their opponents’ players to and from the public bathrooms before the TC Ching complex finally opened. Take Jessica Iwata for example, I could have said, “Nice home run last inning,” but of course I didn’t. She just wants to pee. Those era of players, in particular, deserved better. That team home run record will never be broken. Hawaii athletics reduced Division 1 softball to youth league sports.
The important part about making the bowl game besides the extra money is the extra 3 weeks of practice. Tomey often spoke of the extra practices that BYU had every year.

Got UH mens basketball, which tends to draw up to capacity at the Sheriff. We got volleyball programs that are more existent than some schools that should have better volleyball programs that ours. We got swim and sailing teams (very HAWAII sports, to boot) that should be talked about too.
Growing low attendance at the stadium and the Mantis and Mariotas ALWAYS ending up at national programs might determine the fate of Hawaii football anyway. Pau already. Have the courage to do the right thing.
