NIVC format change, UC Davis links, SandBows this weekend

NIVC just announced a format change. Field now 32 (down from 64)
Also NEW matches in Rounds 1 and 2 held back-to-back on Nov. 28-Dec. 1 at eight of the participating schools. The event will play through the championship game, hosted at one of the two remaining schools and broadcast on ESPN3.

Have asked UH admin if that changes anything for them. Haven’t heard back

A couple of things from previous thread
if you need to go back, the link is

Re: playing to play in tourneys other than NCAA
yes, UH has paid for basketball, where the return on the investment is much greater on the men’s side. Not so much for the women. If I remember correctly, UH turned down bids to the third-teir tournaments a few years ago.

    Re: redeye
some people need to let the obsession over the travel itinerary go. it’s not like they are playing the same day that they arrive.

Re: who gets in and left out. someone mentioned Washington State and North Texas.
WSU shouldn’t get in. North Texas will because it will get one of the 32 automatics as conference champion

re: maglio and others heading to beach ASAp.
Beach fall season is over with after this week. much as in spring with indoor, they only have so many days out of season for practices.

On Wahine vb ‘barely making money” Hawaii was the first program to generate revenue. and still does. Nebraska is the second. Believe those are still the only 2 that does.

as mentioned above: Spectrum is televising the Prep Beach championships. SandBows event is piggybacking on that. Convenient for TV then to do both.

Wahine basketball loses money, but yet they have gone to the 64 team WNIT in 2015, 2014 and 2013. They haven’t gone to the NCAA’s as much as the Wahine VB program though. They did go to the NCAA’s in 2016.

#2: If I’m not mistaken, WBB WNIT, like the MBB NIT, is not a pay-to-play tournament. MBB’s CIT and CBI are the ones you have to pay to enter. The last time CIT opportunity was offered, UH turned it down. I think MBB played in the CIT only once or twice.

3…. The NIVC cost setup is similar to the WNIT. For the NIVC, UH would have to pay any UH travel cost over $15,000. The first $15,000 is covered by the NIVC.
If UH hosts, they would have to share the net match revenue with NIVC, with a larger percentage to them than what UH would keep.

    4. UH is not hosting. This year. But UH has said they are interested in learning more about what the NIVC wants for future reference.
But it should say something that months after announcing a 64-team field, today they have paired it down to 32 and changed the format to 8 hosts sites.
