6-1 outside hitter out of Shadow Hills High School in Indio, Calif. She has earned four varsity letters in volleyball for the Lady Knights. This year as a senior, she led Shadow Hills with 290 kills (5.6 kills per set) with a .471 hitting percentage. She had 190 more kills than her next closest teammate. Castaneda, who can play all the way around, also recorded 102 digs and 11 total blocks this year. For her career, she has buried 1,073 kills (3.8 k/s) for a hitting percentage of .304 with 125 total blocks and 423 total digs.

The 2018 season marks a new era in the University of Hawai‘i men’s volleyball program as the Rainbow Warriors begin the inaugural year of the Big West Conference. The team will also play host to three in-season tournaments, including the 24th annual Outrigger Resorts Invitational, during a 19-match home schedule.
Two of the three tournaments are inaugural events – the Texaco Rainbow Warrior Classic, Jan. 4-6, which includes USC, Juniata, and Stevens Institute and the Waikīkī Beachcomber By Outrigger Classic, Feb. 1-3, comprising of Sacred Heart, Thompson Rivers, and Lees-McRae.
The Outrigger Resorts Invitational moved out of its traditional January timeslot to March 8-10 with a star-studded lineup featuring NCAA Championship participants BYU of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and Penn State of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. The match-up with the Nittany Lions on day two of the tournament will mark a rematch of last year’s NCAA Opening Round match, won the Warriors in five sets. UH and BYU met three times last season with the Warriors defeating the Cougars in the MPSF Tournament semifinals. Also making the trip to Honolulu is Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association runner-up Lewis.
The Rainbow Warriors will participate in the inaugural Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge, Jan. 12-14, in Nashville, Ten. UH’s opponents in the 11-team tournament are Lincoln Memorial, Barton College, and Grand Canyon.
UH will host a pair of non-conference series against MPSF members UCLA, Jan. 26 & 28 and Concordia, March 2 & 4 and will travel to Malibu, Calif., for a non-conference match-up against former MPSF rival Pepperdine, March 18.
In the inaugural Big West slate, UH will continue to play traditional two-match series, hosting UC Irvine (Feb. 23 & 25), UC San Diego (March 30-31), and Long Beach State (April 13-14) and travelling to CSUN (March 15-16) and UC Santa Barbara (April 6-7).
The Big West Tournament begins runs April 19-21 in Long Beach, Calif. NCAA Tournament Opening Round matches are April 28 and May 1 while the semifinals and finals will be held at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion, May 3 & 5.
Surprised only one signing for indoor in Trinity Castaneda. Anybody have any idea who Robin is recruiting for next year? And when does the signing period end?
Cole Hogland 6’5″ OH from Iolani signed with UH today. Came down to UH or Pepperdine.

8. That’s a good plan by coach Robyn, would like one or two foreign players and a couple of pac 12/big ten transfers. I also was under the impression they would have 4 available ( not counting Trinity), unless one is going to Mckenna Ross?
I admit I saw Cole Hogland play as a middle only, and he had a whip of an arm, but was undersized, will have to see him on the outside this spring. mainland is Devon Johnson. but I am really curious who the foreign player is. Hope he is as good as Stijn and Rado.
7. Wahine need a rightside player badly.
Would like a rightside, outside and Libero, I think they are set at middle with Natasha, Sky and Sophia, but I wouldn’t turn down a middle transfer, wahine have a rich history with middle transfers turning into beasts, Heather Bown, Victoria Prince , Olivia Magill.
#5 & 9. If all 12 scholarships were awarded for this past year, then with 4 seniors and Lipscomb not returning, that would be 5. Four with Castenada signing, and 3 if one is being given to a returning walk-on player.
While getting help would be nice, they only have 2 scholarships to award next year, with one set aside for their recent verbal. So, I would not award one of the 3 remaining if they can get a better 2019 recruit.
I was really surprised about Cole signing with UH. I saw him play last season, and when I saw his picture yesterday that had him signing for UH, I kinda scratched my head. He still has this year, and apparently he’s been playing for the UH jr. club team for a while now so obviously he’s on Wades radar. Hope he has an awesome year for this senior season and wish him the best. I immediately texted one of his senior classmates at Iolani and we started wondering what position he would play for UH. Forgot that mens team switched to Big West. Can’t remember, is that a good thing?

This will be the first year of Big West men’s volleyball. It is a good thing as it creates another conference for men’s volleyball and will be the only one with a legitimate league voice in the NCAA. since the other men’s conferences and hybrids. MPSF, EIVA, MIVA, Conference Carolinas.

Re: Hogland. not sure where he’ll play. Warriors pretty stacked at both OH and MB
but as Wade likes to say, you can never have too many good players in the gym.
As for Wahine scholarships. Ah Mow-Santos told me she had three to give and was looking at all positions. scholarships are on a annual basis. don’t know if one of the walk-ons is getting one. will have to ask Friday at practice. They have today off.

Cindy, I beg to differ. I think Noah Allen UCLA (basketball) was worth taking for 1 year.
Maybe it works for the basketball team, and beach volleyball but for indoor? not really, IMO
Unless it’s someone who will be a FOR SURE starter and offensive weapon( or libero), that’s a proven commodity at a P5 conference, it’s really not worth it. Look at Long Beach state with it’s setter senior transfer from UNLV, they had her for one year all it did was take away reps from their freshmen and they didn’t win much of anything.
